[00:00:34] Right then man, so today I'm going to tell you a lot of the barley rectory Is this this heart building new, cares it? Yeah, look forward to this one You've been teasing me with this and for long enough now What's the way you're of our net Essex?

[00:00:46] Oh is it? Shit So the rector was a house located in barley Essex Fairness for being described as the most haunted house in England By psychic researcher Harry Price Bill, it makes you 62 Well, it's a connection of your mate Exactly Bill, it made in 62

[00:01:03] To house the rector of the parish of barley and his family The house was badly damaged by a fire in 1939 And demolished in 1944 Barks It's not longer standard No, I mean not There's no other property built on it I think there's still bits of it left there

[00:01:19] Yeah, yeah Right so the large gothic style of rector he had been Elected to be haunted ever since he was built These reports multiplied suddenly in 1929 After the Daily Mirror newspaper published an account of a visit by Price Who wrote two books supporting claims of paranormal activity

[00:01:36] And you should remember the name Harry Price for episode 5 Jeff The Tug in Mongols Hmm Yeah, do Right I couldn't give you some dimensions to give you a foot in the size of the house Yeah So 35 feet high So pretty sure that would make it a free story

[00:01:51] Yep, well not but that's far-floss So yeah A lot of basement Yeah I like that word What basement I don't know why I just like the idea here of an basement I'd like to have a basement Because we thought I would be really doing Yeah, it's true

[00:02:07] You were a regular guy I know Jealous had a lot of basement I'm jealous of that But like a little bit I'm not saying it's definitely murdered five One in the entire life I just like the word I just like a bunch of sounds 20 bits

[00:02:17] I'd like a bunker as you know Like a tornado bunker I know that's a ridiculous thing Well, much you are now, one of them Right so the flora area It was approximately 7,500 square feet So sat on 11 acres of land And it had 32 rooms And 11 bedrooms

[00:02:34] So I like to say it was a fucking easy It's a good size Yeah absolutely Right then, so I'm going to give you some of the history Now we know we live there There we go So the barley directory was constructed On whole road

[00:02:45] In the village of barley Essex In 1862 In the abarly church The house was built by the Reverend Henry Darson Ellis Bull He moved in a year after being named Rector of the parish The house replaced an early directory On the site that had been destroyed by a fire

[00:03:02] In 1841 It was eventually enlarged by the addition of a wing To the house Bols family of 14 children 14 kids That's yeah I bet his misses when she walked What was searching whistle tiger I can't see your shakud and snays Or across the legs It's blowing in it with tinkan

[00:03:23] Exactly So he's this great Right so the nearby church The name of which made it from the 12th century So it's a fucking cold church So there's a scattered rural community A free hamlet to the neck of the parish There are several substantial farm houses And the

[00:03:44] Freckermenterry remains of barley hall Once the seeds of the wild and grey family Legend claims that the Benedictia monastery was supposedly built in this area In about 1360 till And the monk from the monastery Conducted a relationship with a nun From the nearby Convent And almost you like nuns

[00:04:05] After there a fair was discovered The monk was executed And the nun reportedly bricked up a live In the Convent of Walsh Jesus Sadly this legend was debunked in the Third E8 It was confirmed that he had no historical basis No one

[00:04:20] And could have been fabricated by the Reapers children To Romanticize the rectory I was loodop Loodop And then he was driving me out Yeah no I know Right then me So I'm going to tell you about the heart In the place now Well just before you do that

[00:05:46] Do you want us met Sound Right and sort the first paranormal events A bolly rectory reportedly occurred in about 1863 Since a few locals let a remember having heard Unexpected footsteps within the house about that time On the 28th of July 1900

[00:06:03] Four of bulls children saw what they thought was a ghost of a nun It's why I like about four years from the house They tried to talk to a boy disappeared as they got closer Local organist Ernest Ambrose Let us said that the bull family were very convinced

[00:06:18] They had seen an apparition on several occasions Various people were clenchable of witnessed At the right of puzzling incidents Such as a phantom court driver with two headless husband You will mount up shit I'll do like the idea of a headless husband You're in the next four decades

[00:06:36] Bull suddenly died in 1892 And he's son at the Reverend Henry Our Harry folks to talk over the parish Upon Harry Bull's death on the 9th of June 1927 Bolly rectory became vacant In the following year on the 2nd of October

[00:06:55] The Reverend Guy Eric Smith and his wife moved into the house Soon after moving in, Smith's wife While cleaning up a cupboard Reportly came across a brown pepper package Containing the skull of a young woman Oh Much of time to nap and your wardrobe Is this confirmed? Yeah

[00:07:12] Yeah, thank you Just finding the skull in your wardrobe You're not going to have a wardrobe I'm going to have a wardrobe You're going to have a wardrobe You're going to have a wardrobe Yeah, yeah Yes, yes There's one of what covers Oh yeah, I'll be horrified Exactly

[00:07:24] Okay now You should get yourself Oh Jeff Huh Shortly after the family reply To the right, incidents Include in the sounds of servant bells ring in Despite being disconnected Lights appear in windows And unexplained footsteps In addition, Smith's wife

[00:07:41] Believed she saw a harsh, drawn, kind of jade night So the bells bits weird Yeah I can say especially if the disconnect is I mean, I don't Back then, imagine it's all strings and stuff Yeah, so imagine it's like a literal, literal bell Yeah, yeah

[00:07:59] So that can very easily still be wrong What? Well, I don't imagine, well, if you're like, you know, like a shirt You barely let you do Yeah, poets Yeah, well, that's what I mean But I think there's definitely where is that put up

[00:08:10] Yeah, it's not the the the The creators is to never know It's not out with the realms of possibility Yeah The footsteps I'm always at the footsteps I'm always very funny with You need to hear them Because as I say, I watch a lot of ghost adventures

[00:08:26] And the sometimes are hearing It's just like that Could be a number of things It's a great key for all about But there are some occasions where it's very clear To look And you're like, well, that's that's Undeniably footsteps

[00:08:40] And like to appear in a window, which might be that Yeah, you're quite often don't you like It's better than the early, early, early, early, and hundreds Yeah, people see in lights and windows It's quite a common thing I mean We're just waiting

[00:08:56] Because it's another one where there's there could be plenty of reasonable explanations for it The only thing I can think of there there could be is reflections But then that comes down to where the house is And it's okay, like what's around the room

[00:09:09] So it could be something But again, it's not mind blowing I need some police on this scene As well I need I can't let you out there I need a hard-strong courage at night though I love that Give me the headless horseman vibes Right

[00:09:24] And so the Smiths contact the Deliver and Noes pair But asking to be put in touch with the society A physical research of the SPR On the 10th of June, 1929 The Noes pair per cent are reported Promptly wrote the first in a series of articles

[00:09:40] Detailing the mysteries of the bally-rectomy The pair also arranged for a Harry Price A paranormal research to make his first visit to the house He arrived on the 12th of June And immediately phenomena of a new kind appeared Such as the froin of storms There's an over-objects

[00:10:00] Spirit messages were tapped out from the frame of a mirror As soon as Price left these occurrences ceased So Smith's wife later maintained that she's suspected Price An expert conjurer of falsifying the phenomena Jesus I mean, it's a reflex straight away Yeah, we just don't know

[00:10:23] Turns up and new shit stands out in the name And soon as he book us off, it stops Yeah, I mean, sadly I think no one's dead with Yeah, yeah, unfortunately Yeah, so the Smith's left barley on the 14th of July, 1929

[00:10:38] And the parish had some difficulty in finding a replacement On the 16th of October, 1930 The reverend lignal alginon Foster, a cousin of the boss And his wife, Marion, moved into the house Along with that adopted daughter, Adelaide Foster wrote an account of various strange incidents

[00:10:57] That occurred between the time he was family moved in And October, 1935 Which was sent to Price These included bell ringing, window shattering And froins of stones and bottles Wall right in and the lock in of Adelaide In a room with no key

[00:11:15] That's how we, that's how we, the lock in doors Yeah, yeah, 100% Because the, the, the, the, the, the daughters Sorry, the lot of story, and there wasn't The door doesn't just lock it until I know that I mean, there's, there's some, or really old school locks

[00:11:30] Like tumblr locks where the calendar Yeah, but I mean, it's not very often it happens Yeah, exactly. I told you on the first day The episode we did that time when I was in, I was at my memory dad's house When I was, and I've been with Farty

[00:11:42] And the front door was randomly locked Yeah, yeah That, that, that's the only thing that's ever out to me This freaked me out Yeah, who is he just can't explain it? Yeah, exactly Exactly So Marion reported to her husband, the whole range of

[00:11:54] Pultagast phenomena that included her being Front from her bed and monocation Adelaide was attacked by Incaught something horrible Now we're down a bit please Fogs the tried twice to conduct an accesses And boys efforts were fruitless In the middle of the first accesses

[00:12:12] And he was struck on a shoulder by a fist Size, stone Oh, shit Again, a weird one I mean Spice hands like, you know if you do with Exorcisms and stuff then Yet expect a bit more than a stone Yeah, you expect some serious retaliation when you're

[00:12:31] Yeah, crawling on a walls and shit Well, yeah exactly Had doing 360s Well, I mean, well, the way I'm doing an Exorcism on a person is like, you know, to exercise the house He's still Oh, wait, yeah, see, yeah Adex, I'd explore the whole

[00:12:43] Dolls and windows, everything to be slumming Yeah, like, flickering, crucifixers across the room Yeah, yeah, full of light in outside Hi And bloods, birds flying in winter Fogs Cros then It's not birds Didn't think of any fucking patterns I'm fucking eagle some give me your details, man

[00:13:05] Oh, yeah, no word horrible Yeah, sure Right, so because of the coverage of the chaos by the dearly mirror These incidents attracted the attention of several paranormal researchers After investigations, were unanimous in suspect In that they were caused consciously or unconsciously by Mariam

[00:13:23] I think it's weird that it could be unconsciously Yeah You know, you don't realize you're doing it sort of thing And you're freaking yourself out Yeah, yeah, yeah I feel like the office, now, to remember that film The office, yes Well, like hardened themselves Yeah, yeah

[00:13:35] That was out I kind of decided if that was a good film on that Yeah, it's kind of in the middle of the night It was a good concept It was one of them that's like, you know, I was a good film

[00:13:43] I'm never going to watch it again though Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah It's a one watch film, yeah So, Mariam let us say that she felt that Some of the incidents were caused by her husband In a concept with one of the psychic researchers

[00:13:58] But other events appeared to her to be genuine paranormal phenomena Mariam later admitted that she was having a sexual relationship with a logic named Frank Pealus Yeah, exactly And she used that paranormal explanations to cover up her liege It's a fucking love of this bit

[00:14:14] Oh, absolutely love this bit He's in a fucking kitchen What's that fucking warning? Did he come to the town? Did he really that morning? Oh, that ghost upstairs Look, look at what he wrote that Do you have the bed going here? Fucking ghost up there Under the sheets

[00:14:29] I mean, I've heard some fucking excuses before But that's the top part That's the next level isn't it, yeah Yeah, that's great Can we take a look at the mirror Trying to come from the fair with ghosts Oh, I mean, it's a take in the take, I guess

[00:14:45] You think my shit did apparently? Right then, so the first family left Bali in October 1935 As a result of Lionel's ill health So, I just didn't see a watch Sadial I doubted those fucking soapy bases, man I had soapy drugs Oh, dear

[00:15:08] That's a lot of a story there I'm going to tell you about how he places investigation Now, yes So, while he read the book While he read the book, and for some time After the voices departure In May 1937 Price took out a year-long rental agreement

[00:15:23] With Queen Anne's bounty The owners of the property For an advertiser For an advertiser He's been printed in the times On 25th of May 1937 And subsequent personal interviews He recruited a corpse of 48 Again, of course Official observers Mostly students who spent periods Me and the jury in weekends

[00:15:44] At the house with instructions to report Any phenomena that occurred You do that wouldn't you Yeah Absolutely That's dream job blinding there You get a 40 A of a moment in Christ Yeah Well, that was in course I suppose that's fucking 32 of your rooms You think that's fucking manual?

[00:16:03] Yeah, no, it's probably got a person Each and every room Yeah Clubs like living rooms And there's always that 32 of them So, 32 rooms altogether 32 rooms altogether in the level bedrooms Oh right Jesus Yeah, fucking mental Right then So, in March 1938 Helen Glandville The daughter of SJ Glandville

[00:16:21] One of Price's helpers Conducted a planchette say on In on the street That's a weed your body Yeah, basically Yeah, yeah So, Price reportedly that she made contact with two spirits The first of which Was that of a young nun who identified herself as Marie Lair Mm-hmm

[00:16:44] According to the planchette story Marie was a French nun Who left her religious order And traveled to England to marry a member Of the World-Grey family She was said to have been murdered In an older building on the site of the Bollyredry And her body was either

[00:17:01] Buried in the cellar of Frone Into a dish used well So there's good beliefs around in the Nun did die somewhere Yeah, but it wasn't the one that was Brecht up in the fucking one site Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[00:17:14] Just obviously it's a different Nun I can tell you where she was put now Go on Covered Probably I'm maybe Yeah, so well like I said She was even put buried in the cellar Offroading to a dish used well Yeah

[00:17:28] So I was always put people getting chopped in wells And back in the past you were supposed to go on really have many wells No, do we? Yeah, it's true It's true So the wall there Christ The wall writings were alleged to be her police for help

[00:17:40] One red Marion police helped me get out The wall writings Yeah, so the writings on the walls Ah, right? Okay Well, like I said, I mean they're very suspect as well Yeah, yeah, of course Hmm You can always put pieces of stories together

[00:17:56] When you start a line in the mob Yeah, that's natural That's true, that happened Yeah I just think it's well-loving to me That was the case It's saying like a dish used well Like a well's not an easy thing to get rid of

[00:18:06] Yeah, I'm more so that I'm really just end again covered up Yeah, yeah Get down there No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no There are so many stories with that There's someone buried under the floor bars Well, fucking lift and what man will look

[00:18:18] Exactly So the second spirit to be contacted Identified himself as I don't even know what these sunnicks I don't even know what they say that last bit But yeah And he claimed that he would sent fire to Barley Retry At 9 o'clock that night 27th March, 1938

[00:18:34] He also said that at that time The bones of a murdered person would be revealed Hmm Which is like say it's interesting when you think back to the note Yes Yeah I mean that's all there is on that spirit But Obviously it didn't burn down then

[00:18:49] Which again is a bit sauce Yeah, like I said But it's just weird in it It's just say well I made him stuff when they get some of that on Yeah And then the other thing is a right you're talking shit Yeah Yeah, yeah It's weird too much

[00:19:03] Yeah Yeah But it is Right then so this was the This is about the SPR investigation Hmm So after Harry prices deaf in 1948 The Daily Mail report A child's sort of accused him of fear In phenomena I mean why do rafteries dead then men

[00:19:21] So I'm claim that while visiting Bollywood Drey with price in 1999 He was hit on the head by a large pebble So instead he seized price And found his court pockets filled with different sized stones Okay Yeah, there's a problem straight away Yeah In 1948 Eric Dingwell K. M. Goldney

[00:19:44] And Trevor Heech Hall You know Why the name of the fucking letters in the Mr. Plusie Oh man 3 members of the SPR Two of whom have been prices Most lollipassos Investigated his claims about Bollywrectory They're findings were published in a 1950s-6 book The heart-end of Bollywrectory

[00:20:05] Which concluded that Price had frauds and made Produced some of the phenomena I mean not shit Yeah Yeah Just the fact they had storms In his pockets I mean that Yeah Yeah

[00:20:17] He's clearly someone who likes the stories to follow him, he's trying to build himself a name and stuff for going to these places. Celebrities to us. Exactly. Exactly. Right. So the barley report as the SPR study has been as become known,

[00:20:31] stated that many of the phenomena were either faked or due to natural causes such as rats. The strange acoustics attribute reads to the odd shape of the house. Which again, that's doable. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm going to visit this a bit downfall of guns in there. Yes.

[00:20:48] Yeah, that's that circle. You stand in the middle of it and it's fucking weird. Yeah, that's quite a simple example. Like they should like, another lot of time even naturally. Yeah. Yeah. So I think there was a lot of big pedomids in Mexico.

[00:21:00] You know, they're frigging mine pyramid. Yeah, that one. There's a bit there if you stand in like you can be looking at some of the depth like 200 fucking yards where. Yeah. And you literally just just place it like this. And it's like the ring you're fucking in.

[00:21:12] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's quite a mile a day isn't it? Yeah, I think that's right. Yeah, 100%. Yeah, so rats in there, strangely coostics that they're way too. Yeah, in their conclusion, the free office road when analyzed the evidence for a hunting and pulled the guys

[00:21:27] activity for each and every period appears to diminish in force and find me to vanish away. Terence Heinz wrote that Mrs Marion Foster wife of the Reverend Lionel Foster who lived at the directorie from now. The infertile to 90, 35 was actively engaged in fraudulent, create, inherited phenomena.

[00:21:48] Price himself sold to the mind and saved several phenomena while he was at the directory. Well, we know why she was there to think. They walked on me. So Marion Foster later admitted that she had seen no apparitions and that the alleged ghostly

[00:22:03] notices were caused by the wind or again, they're good to say until which everyone you want to believe. It's really good. Now, French invited to the house and in other cases by herself, play in practical jokes on a husband.

[00:22:16] Many of the legends about Bali directory had also been invented. The children of the Reverend Harry Bull who lived in the house before Lionel Foster claimed to have seen nothing and were surprised. They had been living in there what was described as in the most haunted house.

[00:22:33] I don't know what it's actually. I don't know what it's actually. I don't know what it's actually. I don't know what it's actually. I don't know what it's actually. I don't know what it's actually. So Robin, Robert Hastings was one of the few SPR researchers to defend price.

[00:22:45] Price is literally executor. I think that's what that says. Paltibari. So some more than we in there. Exactly. Maybe. And what the hell is that then? You can do this. I don't know if I've heard the word. I don't know if I've heard a word.

[00:23:01] You know what that means? It doesn't know. And the SPR researcher Peter Underwood. That's it there. Perfect with normal man. I've also defended price against accusations of fraud. The similar approach was made by Ivan Banks in 1996. Well, not too long ago. Michael Coleman in an SPR report in 1997,

[00:23:20] wrote that price is defenders were unable to rebuke the criticisms convincingly. Mmm. So that's all investigations. Fair enough. So it's very 50-50 don't isn't it? Yeah, I think for me, like in terms of how is it house hot and stuff build non, whatever you want to call it,

[00:23:38] the most prominent and the one with the best evidence from all fields of professions would be the demon house still. Yeah, true. I think the ancient rum in someone's a bit more. It's supposed it's just because it's still there. Like we can't go at this place now.

[00:23:54] I know for ourselves. Yeah, I'm kind of thinking. But it's a mixture isn't it? It does sound like a lot of shit. There was a lot going on in the background that we'd explain. She's having a fair, she's sneaking around anywhere.

[00:24:07] There's going to be noises and shit when she's you know, GGG, what a lot of crap. Then there's this price being found with different size storms in his pocket. I mean, it's like fuck off. Come on. Exactly. Like what's up?

[00:24:21] When certain things on the album, when he's there. Yeah, yeah. It's a bit of shit with the house and things. There's a lot of explanations there that scientifically be bunked almost everything. Yeah. Apart from the bones and stuff.

[00:24:36] Yeah, that's probably the best bit because it's clearly got a bit of a past. Yeah, exactly. Which is what you want. Yeah. I mean, it's definitely shummers. Yeah, true. With the place. Yeah, yeah. What's with the place? I'm, but obviously not to the end for an ex-suit.

[00:24:49] No, that's not. I had to be made out. I'm sure there's a woodland near there somewhere. I cannot remember for a life, the name of it. I know it's a Nassix. Mm-hmm. Where a dick turpin is. Mmm. Yeah, that's why that hole up. So came from isn't it?

[00:25:03] Well, it's very narrow. Yeah, he's very unique. Huh? He's very unique. Is he? Yeah. I know he's great. I've here. Yeah. What can hell? When a little ghost tour in Yacht, I'll tell you. Very enough. Oh, look at that. I'm trying to double that, but... I'm just...

[00:25:18] The conductor was called early grave. Great. That's fantastic. If that's legit, that was... Of course, if it wasn't, you idiot he was a fucking actor. Ah, yeah, tell me. Pratt. Wouldn't be that difficult to find somewhere that name. What do you want to say? Right.

[00:25:33] I'm going to tell you about the fire now. So on the 27th of February 1939, the new owner of the Barley Reggery. Here we go again with the letters. Captain W. H. Greggson was one fucking boxer. He's an accident. He knocked over an oil lamp in the hallway.

[00:25:46] The house was never connected to a gas-irelectric, he's a play. And what was obtained from a well in the courtyard. The fire quickly spread and the house was severely damaged after the investigate. In the cause of the blast, the insurance company concluded that the fire seemed

[00:26:01] to have been started deliberately. So nice little. I'll see. But check out a claim in there. Yeah. Ah. Miss Williams from nearby Barley Lodge said that she saw the figure of a ghostly known in the upstairs window during the fire. And according to Harry Price again,

[00:26:18] demanded a fee of one guinea fire story. Oh. That's all monica. I did luxury look up at the time. I farted around. It down what that. Equivalents do now. No. I opened it so. My dad.

[00:26:33] In August 1943, Price conducted a brief dig in the cellars of the ruined house and discovered two bones. Four to beat of a young woman. The bones were given to the bones were given a Christian burial in

[00:26:47] Listen churchyard after the parish of Barley refused to allow the cemetery to take place. The ceremony to take place on account of the local opinion of the bones. Found belong to a pig apparently. Fuck it. It was caused by the worse this place. Yeah, no. It's not exactly.

[00:27:07] I've got so excited. I'm like the nuns, the most prominent thing. Now we've got the bones. There's a boat as a link. What again? Why the fuck is the pigs bones in the cellar? Number one. That means that's where you're done it's on. Bacon. Well, yeah, fair point.

[00:27:22] But why's there only two bones? What do you mean by two bones? That's the weird part. I mean, surely there's going to be more down there. Local dog. Yeah, between now two small, two big, sorry. Two bones. Could be a sacrifice. Well, possibly.

[00:27:38] Yeah, so it's not a ritual. Maybe a nose. Possibly. And as usual, I am banned with the films of Old Barley, I reckon. Yeah, so in 2007, the part Anna Mayard, it filmed Barley, Rectory, the most hardly. The house in England was released.

[00:27:54] It was written and directed by Ashley Farb and starred Recherism in Jonathan Rigby. You know Recherism is first, if I'm sure you'll show your left of this. In 2021, the feature film The Ghost of Barley, Rectory was released. It was written and directed by Stephen M. Smith and

[00:28:11] starred Julian Sands, Toya Wilcox, which is mental. Colin Beger and Crystal for Eggleson. Alison. Sorry. Hmm. I thought I've got a few of that on that one. Sounds good. I mean, it's, it's a good story, but it's, it's a shame. It's just very fishy in it. Because everything.

[00:28:31] Everything goes up and it just collapses. There's, they can think of, oh, okay, so this is happening. This is happening and then it's like, oh, and then so I'm so came in and probably it was all ballads and it's just like, why?

[00:28:58] No, no, that story did. Fuck's there. It's, it'd be interesting to even just go where it was though. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I was going to originally say it might have to check out the grave sometime, but it's a pig. So you know what I mean?

[00:29:13] That's the whole story in a nutshell. He allows big and big in the city. There was a known, she was building, like, put into a room and the wall was built around her. No, no, no, sorry. That never happened. There's been still throwing across the rooms.

[00:29:28] Yeah, but where he has rocks in his pocket. Exactly. We found bones in the cellar, but it belonged to a pig. Yeah. But best bit is the story. Yes, yeah, it's this point, but I like the skull. Yeah, that doesn't sound like it's been this brew.

[00:29:41] Why are there a skull in the cupboard? Well, exactly. It's mental. But yeah, I think we'll leave it there, man. So yeah, yeah, what I say is out. Absolutely. So obviously go and check out all of our social media platforms.
