[00:00:09] Right then, guys, welcome back to The Spooky Shed Podcast, Liam here as always and you'll never get a swat once again, Billy is not fucking here as always as he is at the minute because... Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on a minute, hang on a minute. Guess who's back? It's about fucking time, mate. Billy is here, Billy is back. Yeah, it is about time, you're dead right, you're dead right. Exactly. We have a schedule for a change, don't we, mate? We do, we do, finally.
[00:00:39] At last. The only time we've been able to have a schedule. How long it lasts for is obviously another question because it's you. Yeah, true, true. But just to let everyone in on the idea. So where I work is now, thankfully, and it's just as well as they were losing money anyway, but my workplace has started closing on Sundays, which means I get every Sunday off,
[00:01:06] which is very helpful for me and Liam in terms of doing these. So, yeah, you're pretty much guaranteed to have Billy a lot more now. There'll be tears and then there'll be tears there as well. Oh, aye. Oh, aye. I don't know if you want to explain more to the point of where you've been and whatnot. And obviously we've got some insights into the story of what is happening with your life, haven't we? Yeah, so I'm very personal.
[00:01:34] Personal, everybody's welcome into my life, basically. That's the opposite of personal, isn't it? Personable. I'm very open about my personal life, should I say. So for those listening who don't know, my mum is facing jail time for committing an offence which involves stabbing someone. We've had good news on that, by the way, everybody. My mum's not a horrible person. She went through a phase.
[00:02:04] There's no point in me going through it all. Basically, she used to be a nurse. She's had a successful career. It's her first ever offence and it's kind of just a weird situation. It's happened. But that was all sort of fresh January because we were awaiting a sentence and now that's been delayed till March. But she has been told some good news. So that's that. I'm not going to elaborate any more on that until if the time comes when I do. So that was one thing.
[00:02:30] Plus, yeah, I've got a seven-month-old baby who doesn't like to sleep at the moment either. She's in a really bad stage of teaving now. I've got a missus who wants my support 24-7. It's understandable. It's understandable. But there's times when me and Liam have made arrangements and said arrangements have not been possible due to that. I also have a six-year-old son who wants me to go to bed at the exact same time he does.
[00:02:59] We try and get him up for eight and things and he wants Dad to go with him all the time. Liam's just witnessed him not long ago come down the stairs saying, Dad, I'm going to stay up until you get up. So that makes it difficult as well. And then work, we've just, where I work, I work in, here we go, is all the booze sales industry. And we've had a new franchise takeover.
[00:03:23] And long story short, they kind of told us to get rid of all our own morals and things like that, which we're completely against. Well, you don't have any morals anyway. You're a bastard. Fuck you. I do have morals. No, but yeah, they've put a lot in place that a lot of us don't agree with. I mean, they've got reviews and stuff where we were pre-warned in a sense of it. The reviews are saying, welcome to depression. Welcome. Say goodbye to your mental health, all of this shit.
[00:03:53] And it's just... Going well then. It's mental. I'm full-time and I've asked to go back part-time because it's just, it's too much there. I'm going to look elsewhere, but I mean, at the moment it's just job security. The area that me and Liam live in. I mean, it's not too difficult finding a job to be fair, but I'm a firm believer in make sure you do something you enjoy. Otherwise, he likes to shit. So, yeah, yeah. So that's the busy life of Billy at the moment. Right then, mate.
[00:04:22] So we're going back to our route sort of here with this episode. Oh, yes. Yes. Aye. So we're doing most haunted places. Yes. I was about to say we're talking paranormal then, aren't we? We are, mate. We are. You know I'm all about that. By the way, guys, we did actually... Sorry to cut you off there, Liam. Just with your mention of paranormal, I wanted to mention it. We did try out this location. It would have been really good as well.
[00:04:50] So we are looking for another YouTube video. Again, finding the time is not easy, but with me having Sunday, it does make it a little easier. But we are looking to do another one, go to another haunted sort of location. We've been turned down by one place, but we'll get there. We'll get there. Just bear with us. There will be more videos than that to come in the future. It's just a little difficult for me and Liam right now. Definitely. And on that note of our paranormal investigations,
[00:05:19] the other day, I don't know when Tommy's putting the episode out, but it might be out all right. It might be out now, so if it is, go and listen to it. If it's not, wait for it and it'll be out soon. So I was on Tommy Cullen's Let's Get Freaky podcast for the second time. Yeah, so I was on Let's Get Freaky again and basically told everything about what happened on our investigation. All right, okay. So what was Tommy's thoughts on that then? Weird. You'll have to listen to it, mate, when this episode comes out.
[00:05:48] Don't leave me in the dark. Tell me a bit. No, you left me in the dark in them fucking woods, so yeah. Was he mesmerised by your reaction or did you tell him how you were? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Again, guys, if you haven't seen it, fucking go watch it because this guy I'm talking to was a full-on sceptic. He came open when he went there and I think it made him think a little more when he was there. Yeah. Right, anyway, mate, let's get into this episode then, shall we?
[00:06:18] Let's. Right then, mate, so before we get into this one, I've got, as me and you do together, I've got a question for you. Ooh. Would you stay in a haunted hotel? Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. 100% I'd love to do that. Would you stay in a haunted hotel that used to be a prison? Eh. Didn't think you could throw me off with that answer.
[00:06:49] Right, am I staying in this with someone or on my own? Oh, do you want to stay there with? You. I'll stay there. It'll be funny. I don't know. It'll be funny. Ah, yeah, yeah, in that case, yeah. If I were on my own, fuck no. Right, fair enough. Anyway, so that probably gives it away that, mate, we're talking about the most haunted hotels in the UK today. Well, I like it. I like it. Right, so, number one.
[00:07:18] So we've got the Mermaid Inn in East Sussex. I assume these are in no particular order. These are just, like, top ten in general. Yeah, no particular order. Well, I've got nine. I've got eight and then a bonus one. Right. Right, so, yeah. Number one, Mermaid Inn in East Sussex. So, located in the historic medieval town of Rye in East Sussex, the Mermaid Inn building dates back more than 600 years, making it one of the oldest buildings in the country. Jesus. And one of the most haunted places in Sussex.
[00:07:47] Used as a base of operations for the infamous Hawkehurst gang during the 1700s. There are five from the gang believed to still be residing here amongst many other spirits. The sheer number of paranormal reports here is quite astounding. Ooh. A few of these include a lady in grey, as always, who likes to sit in a chair by the fireplace, as always.
[00:08:13] An apparition of a man said to hang around room number 10, appearing to walk through the bathroom wall into the main room. In room 17, the wife of the Hawkehurst gang founder, George Gray, is said to reside, often appearing in the middle of the night, rocking on a chair in the room. These are a few of the ghostly tales experienced at the historic inn, and there are countless more. Yeah, that sounds interesting. That sounds interesting. That's one that I don't think I'd be too scared of.
[00:08:44] I think I'd quite happily do that. I think the weirdest one on that is, imagine you wake up and there's just some fucking woman in the corner rocking on a chair. That's the weirdest thing for me. That's straight out of The Conjuring, though, isn't it? You know what I mean? If you genuinely saw that, I mean, what do you do if you see something like that? Shit yourself. Yeah. I don't know. Change your underpants? I don't know. You'd lose all concept of reality. But this is what I mean,
[00:09:14] because I was thinking there as well, obviously, so you've got one head that just walks through the wall. Obviously, I can't say unless you're in that situation, but again, I think that's one of them where I don't think I'd be overly bothered. I mean, I might stay awake. What, if you saw a woman rocking in the corner? No, I mean the buggers walking through the walls. And that wouldn't bother you? Not as much as the buggers rocking in the chair, because I'm like, well, he's gone. But where he's gone? He's gone through the wall. I couldn't.
[00:09:43] Either one of them. Like, noises and stuff. Anything like that, I could do. As I say, I've never seen something in that sort of form with my own two eyes. Like, I've never seen a figure clear as day. Like, rocking in a chair, walking through walls, anything. But I know for a fact if I would, if I did, nah. Not about that. Yeah, that would horrify me. Right. Number two, mate. I'm not 100% out of how I would say this, because it's in Edinburgh, so obviously it's Scottish,
[00:10:13] but to me it says Delhousie. Delhousie. Exactly. You can do that accent. Right, so I'm just going to say it, because that's how I'm reading it. So, Delhousie Castle, Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh. A one-time fortress, this 13th century castle is now the Delhousie Castle, Hotel and Spa, and it's a place of luxury and relaxation, filled with antiques, relics and history. It's also one of the most haunted places in Edinburgh, and one of the most haunted places in Scotland. Wow.
[00:10:43] I was going to say, you would imagine so. Well, that's a big statement, though. Well, yeah, I know, because, I mean, Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Castle's like the main one, isn't it? Yeah, we've got Edinburgh Vault, Edinburgh Castle, yeah. Yeah. Right, so the most prominent spirit here is the love-lorn Lady Catherine, who died at just 16 after being banished to the castle tower in 1695 after getting caught with a stable hand. Who's like a stable hand?
[00:11:14] Elaborate. Someone who works in a stable, mate. Ah. So I'm guessing it's like a fucking... Ah, so she's sleeping with a stable guy. Yeah, but like I say, so she was like a Lady Catherine, so I'm guessing she was obviously some sort of important. Yeah. Basically, she was shagging to help. Yeah, right, okay. Exactly. So her misliked apparition has been seen in photos, often during times of celebration. You may also catch a glimpse of her looking down from the turrets waving
[00:11:43] to those passing by. The what? The what? Turrets. Yeah, no, the turrets. You would catch a glance of her... What? Waving. Yeah. Waving at passersby. Yeah. I am dead. I was going to say, that wouldn't so much scare me, really. Well, no, I mean, well, I suppose it depends how she looks, doesn't it? I mean... Yeah. If she's all like
[00:12:13] fucking ghostly, then maybe. If it's just like, you know, if you just see a person up there waving, you'd just be like... Yeah, I was going to say that, but the wave could be looking like that. You know what I mean? If the wave... Exactly. God knows. Anyway, in addition to Lady Catherine's, Alexander Ramsey haunts the castle. His ghost still haunts the place in which he suffered his famous death by starvation in 1342. Ooh. That's better. That's a bit scary. Yeah, because he'll be
[00:12:43] all fucking shriveled and knackered and fucking starved. I wasn't where I was going. What were you thinking, like? Just the death, so he's going to be a little bit angrier, I think. You know what I mean? Well, she's not going to be buzzing about it, is she? Well, she's got killed for shagging. She probably knew that she would die if she got caught. Do you know what I mean? This guy's been starved to death. Yes, but I suppose, I suppose. Christ. Well, she went starved, she had plenty of sausage. Oh.
[00:13:13] Welcome back. Thank you. Fuck's sake. Right, mate, number three. So we've got Eastwell Manor, Ashford in Kent. Eastwell Manor Hotel is a stunning country house surrounded by breathtaking landscape gardens in the Eastwell Park, Kent. However, beneath the surface that befits the most extravagant period drama lies a haunting that would leave the most hardened ghost hunters
[00:13:42] running for the door. Booking for a weekend away here, you may come face to face with the lady in white. A terrifying apparition appears at night, often to partners on their night shift. Activity here is so prevalent it's considered the most haunted place in Kent. elsewhere on the grounds the spirits of a horseman has been seen always love a good horseman galloping towards the manor then veering off towards the lake
[00:14:12] in the dead of night. Now that'd freak you out. Yeah, horseman it's all you need. Lake Exactly. It's got a bit more of that creepy vibe hasn't it? Exactly. I just like a good horseman especially headless ones. Yeah, definitely. But this is the whole where it comes into play with residual and atmospheric energy where that plays its part. So anywhere once somewhere looks spooky you're already starting to think the worst
[00:14:41] before you've even considered the fact that it's paranormal or anything just walking through there you think this is haunted. Then there's kind of thoughts that when you're doing a ghost hunt or something you need to try and move to the sides you're not here for the atmosphere you're not here for the scenery you're there to catch something that you can't see with your own two eyes. Yeah. Right mate number four so again don't know how to say this because it's in bloody Wales but I'm going to say roofing because that's how it's spelled. Roofing! Exactly.
[00:15:11] So roofing castle hotel in north Wales so roofing castle has a history dating back to the 13th century having been built by Edward I in 1217. Now a luxurious hotel and spa it's regarded as one of the most haunted castles in Wales home to another grey lady ghost obviously amongst many other spirits see that this is the problem that I have with some of this there's too many grey ladies yeah it's always grey lady grey
[00:15:41] grey white lady why is there never a black lady you know what I mean well it's the woman in black yeah but that's that's that's like you don't hear that though do you you go you know anywhere in the UK and there's oh that's where the grey lady is that's where the grey lady is this is where the grey lady is why can't there be a yellow lady yeah why can't there be a green lady there is in Shrek yeah I suppose
[00:16:11] but no exactly though but that's what I mean it's always I get very bored of grey lady stories I suppose the only reason they call them the grey lady is because it's a ghost apparition and there's always the idea that ghosts are translucent so or a misty form which is considered grey isn't it yeah I suppose it's one of them though they're the ones that make me believe them a lot less if you know what I mean see what was that place called
[00:16:41] roofing castle see why can't it be the roofing lady I don't bloody know I'm just saying give them a cool name exactly I mean that's not exactly a great one but yeah I know what you mean though yeah like if I went to you and say oh if you heard the story of the grey lady you're just going to turn around and say which one yeah exactly right anyway then so the most prominent though is the grey lady the wife of the second in command at the fortress
[00:17:10] in the days of Edward I legend says she was sentenced to death after killing her husband's mistress her vengeful spirit roams the halls of the castle and battlements to this day that's a cool story so that got a bit better though yeah it's got a cool story that one got a bit better exactly just call it the vengeful cow or something I don't know yeah yeah you know what I'm saying
[00:17:40] yeah that's just oh yeah like I said especially if it's one who's murdering people you've got to give them something better than just grey fucking lady 100% yeah exactly the vengeful spirit of fucking Wales Castle whatever roofing castle right mate on that note we'll take a little break so we'll be back after this yes
[00:18:07] everything guys welcome back to the Spooky Shed podcast we are halfway through the most haunted hotels in the UK right then Billy so number five one we've spoken about before so we've got the Golden Fleece in York ah yes oh that's really top ten as well yeah fucking hell well like I said it's top eight plus a bonus so stop saying
[00:18:36] top ten you dickhead well yeah you know what I mean right then regarded by many paranormal experts as the most haunted pub in Britain the Golden Fleece in York is a must visit for anyone visiting the city featuring on TV's most haunted Mary loves dick several years ago this centrally located in offers rooms to book if you deem yourself brave enough to spend the night do you reckon you'd spend the night there yeah
[00:19:06] yeah well it's good that we're doing a recap here because I won't lie to you I've kind of forgot what the spirits and stuff were there just a quick one as well you mentioned most haunted how funny because earlier I saw on YouTube most haunted have just returned to Pendle Hill for those of you who don't understand that we did a video on the Pendle Hill witches before I think it was episode 13 go and have a listen yes definitely
[00:19:35] anyway carry on was that it just the fact that they've been back to Pendle Hill yeah just that I'd seen that and obviously you just mentioned them there so coincidence exactly no such thing right then as one of the most haunted places in York if you do book a room here you'll find it difficult to avoid any paranormal activity with over 15 ghosts reportedly residing here the most notable you are I'll hold them to that fair enough the most notable being Lady Alice
[00:20:04] Peckett the wife of John Peckett former Lord Mayor of York and one time owner of the inn many guests and staff members have laid their eyes on Alice wandering the crammed dark corridors late at night and walking up and down the old wooden staircase without a doubt the Golden Fleece Inn is one of the most haunted pubs in York and certainly one of the most haunted places in Yorkshire yeah well after once we find the time and what have you I mean York's not
[00:20:34] too many moons away well I'm going to York in March so I might pop in there and have a pint well I might pop in there in March as well and have a pint with you I don't think Katie would say yes to that but you can try I'll just turn up really a bollocks passing by on the day right mate number six so we have the Jamaica Inn Bodmin Mower Cornwall
[00:21:02] so located on the borders of Bodmin Mower in Cornwall this stunning what sorry cutting Liam off there because what's it called oh no I've said it wrong do you know what I'm saying no I'm was it Jamaica Inn well that's what I've read it J-A-M-A-I-C-A how the hell am I saying that Jamaica yeah we'll say that then so we'll go with that really good I'm really excited because I was thinking voodoo and all of that
[00:21:31] stuff mate so I was just about to say there's no voodoo in here I'm not happy but anyway Jamaica Inn yeah we'll go with that we'll go with that anyway so yeah so it's located on the borders of Bodmin Mower in Cornwall and 18th century coaching inn is well known for its tales of pirates smugglers and murderers again worldwide notoriety having been located been the location of the novel
[00:22:01] are we saying it again Billy Jamaica yeah of the novel Jamaica Inn by author Daphne do summit just google it I've told you how to spell it J-A-M-A-I-C-A there we go hi something like that we're definitely both dyslexic aren't we just think think of an Australian saying Jamaica Jamaica mate you know what I mean
[00:22:31] sorry I'm fucking terrible move past Jesus Christ this was this was the what apart from obviously the golden fleece this is one I had actually heard of and I've seen stuff about before that sounds cool though when you're talking pirates and stuff it adds a little bit of flavour to it exactly yeah I like it so it might not have voodoo which I was hoping for but it's got pirates which I yeah yeah pirates of Cornwall doesn't sound as good as pirates of the caribbean does it
[00:23:02] no not quite I've got a jar of dirt why is the black pearl in a bottle honestly I think that's my favourite bit on all of them films what I've got a jar of dirt and guess what's inside it that's an amazing fish face I love
[00:23:32] pirates of caribbean and johnny death in particular anyway back to this one mate so any location with such a long and colourful history is sure to have a ghost or two hiding within them being one of the most haunted places in carl wall the jamaica inn is overflowing with spirits paranormal activity is so rife the inn runs regular ghost hunts and paranormal investigators travel from all over to witness it first hand a few of the reports here contain dismembered
[00:24:01] voices talking in carnage the full-bodied apparition of a man in a hat and cloak and phantom footsteps coming from empty rooms there are of course more and we've only scratched the surface talking in carnage hi what's that like well because because so obviously we have counties don't we yeah yorkshire lancashire cornwall fucking society and all that sort of
[00:24:31] it's like because whitby say well like where's dugan means where are you going yeah yeah well yeah sort of yeah basically yeah it's like that all right okay yeah it's just obviously we're called the united kingdom now because obviously like all the different counties were different kingdoms before yeah yeah exactly so that that's basically what it means is obviously just talking in their sort of dialect really history 101 on there as well guys
[00:25:01] exactly right yeah i don't mind that one i got excited when i seen the word phantom but then it said footsteps afterwards and i was like oh you don't like footsteps do you no but i do like a good phantom yeah yeah think about it if you heard footsteps running up on you clear as day that's not gonna freak you out be honest if they were running then yeah because they might like fucking
[00:25:31] tacklers or something if it was just walking then maybe not oh no see i think walking running either either or more or less more so running obviously but even walking if i heard that and there's nothing there whatsoever creaking and shit i'm right there with you there's a number of reasons i mean if you see a door open and it's creaking and there's no draft or anything then yeah but footsteps that fucks me right mate number seven so we're
[00:26:01] off to northern ireland and again i'm gonna struggle to say this but i'm gonna i'm gonna say the way it's spelled give us your best shot so i've got bali galley bali galley yeah that's probably closer so yeah we'll go with that right then so one of the most haunted places in northern ireland bali galley castle is a beautiful 17th century castle perched on the famous causeway coastal route um in northern ireland with views of the
[00:26:30] golden sands of oh my god bay and stunning sea views out to the irish sea the hotel is an ideal gateway for anyone wishing to unwind having been featured on numerous lists of the world's most haunted places to stay you couldn't leave it off our list of the most famous haunted hotels in britain perhaps one of the oldest known hauntings on the list is the ghost of lady isabel shore the wife of lord james shore you are sorry is she a grey
[00:27:00] lady i can't see any grey but she might be right then so she was the wife of lord james shore when she couldn't provide him with a male heir so threw her in a room at the top of the castle and locked her in she tried to escape but tragically fell to her death on the rocks below the ghost can be seen wandering around the castle and guests experience a chilling presence in their rooms hear your unexplained noises and dismembered voices i never understood that
[00:27:30] here we go unexplained noises no fucking like back in the fucking day oh you can't give me a son i'm just gonna fucking kill you or lock you in a cupboard yeah really weird isn't it it's like back then they just must have had no concept and just think right this person cannot cannot have males so yeah yeah yeah yeah it is strange but it makes for a good story because she died for nothing and it's a horrible way to go because
[00:28:00] she wasn't even killed she was just trying to escape and then died in the process exactly also i lied so number eight i have heard of this one as well so we've got the langham in london and the only reason i've heard of this is because it's actually the setting of a Bradley Cooper film called burnt where he becomes the chef in all right okay oh yeah that's the only reason i've heard of it right then one of the most haunted places in london shit all uh it's
[00:28:29] it's also one of the most elegant and luxurious hotels in the country ideally located at the top end of region street the hotel is a draw for societies rich and famous and for those looking for a haunting i can't imagine there's many rich folk looking for a haunting i've never said folk in my life i was just gonna call you sorry i was just gonna call you out on that as well you just fucking said folk on your road of
[00:28:59] god i've never said folk that's just folk raw oh god that tickled me that didn't it okay oh god anyway since it's opening in 1865 the langham has accommodated the likes of princess diana lady gaga oscar wilde and the great british writer sir arthur conan doyle now there's a fucking group of people
[00:29:28] fucking line up that innit i was like a fucked up new band jesus christ that is one hell of a line up yeah so how do you go from princess diana straight to lady gaga as well exactly well here we go then so even the ghosts are high class at the langham the ghost of emperor napoleon the third is known to return to the hotel he stayed at during his exile from france his spirit is seen wandering the hotel's basement well if he's a
[00:29:58] fucking emperor what's he doing in basement this this is the thing like how what how do they know it's him like that's what fuck his horn is oh well he had a hat on no that's true yeah it'll be rather by the way he fucking looks innit you tit but nobody will have seen him this is the thing they'll have i don't know mate it it just does my ending because you always say they'll think of the biggest person that's been in a location that's his ghost that's there doesn't matter if you have evidence to back it up fair
[00:30:28] play but well yeah fair fair enough i know what you're saying but still but to me i think my point's more valid why the fuck's he in the basement yeah she'll be in penthouse or something but yeah anyway so the most the most active spirit at the langham is that of a german prince who committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor he's often seen wandering through the walls and and doorways in the early hours with a special pension for
[00:30:57] room 333 london's most haunted hotel room 343 that really really rings a bell in my head and i don't know what it's for could be a number of things might be a code of my system at work but i don't know i don't know why either because i said 333 you tit 343 i thought you said 343 no 333 333 333 yes we better think it was 666 but you know well yeah i know it would be like
[00:31:25] we can't win them all can we no right so a little recap there so we've got the mermaid inn in a sussex dalhousie castle in edinburgh eastwell manor in kent roofing castle in wales the golden fleece in york the jamaica inn in cornwall and what's the one in ireland billy dolly dolly galley yeah so somewhere like that anyway yeah and then the langham in london right then mate so
[00:31:54] bonus one for you have you got any more comments on them yeah i've got one for you as well go on i think my favourite one out of them all is a tear between two both the jamaica inn and the golden fleece i think they're my two favourites the uh oh the wales castle one um roof whatever it was roofing castle yeah
[00:32:23] that one sounded all right as well but yeah definitely the um jamaica inn and the golden fleece they're my they're my favourites from that and yours what my favourite hmm i don't know again the jamaica inn just because of pirates aye but i but then after reading that last one there i kind of like the langham as well just because of the freaking the group of people that they've had there i don't like that one i feel like that
[00:32:53] one's just they've built their own tourist tourist attraction maybe maybe just because of the people that have been there before right anyway bonus one for you mate so this comes back to the question that we started with so we've got bodmin jail hotel again we're in bodmin this is what i was going to say to you i was thinking when you got the third one i was like where's this jail one it's got to be in here somewhere hallelujah right then so a little bit of history on bodmin jail so the
[00:33:23] ominous look in bodmin jail was originally built by king george the third in 1779 1779 by the prisoners of the napoleonic wars inmates transported the 20 000 tons of granite it took to construct the jail from bodmin's cuckoo quarry i knew you i knew you'd fucking find that funny you sorry due to chronic overcrowding the prison was extended several times in the 1800s until it was
[00:33:52] finally closed in 1927 during its darkest times as a place of punishment there was 55 prisoners executed by hanging between 1785 and 1909 in 1844 a crowd of over 250 thousand don't know how they know this gathered to watch the execution of the Lightfoot brothers William and James who were convicted
[00:34:22] for the brutal robbery and murder of a local well-known timber merchant Neville Norway such was the clamor the watch of the executions unfold train carriages carrying around 1,100 people had to stop on the railway that ran alongside the jail jesus yeah exactly the last hanging was held back in 1909 and was and was for William Hampton the hanging was a private affair with only the prison staff the governor high sheriff mayor and local vicar present
[00:34:52] fucking hell exactly so today it has been renovated to encompass a four star boutique hotel opened in February 2021 which includes 70 rooms a bar a restaurant the Bodmin jail attraction is also a new addition to the jail which is an immersive experience taking you back to the 18th and 19th century Cornwall penal system do you know what's funny again another coincidence
[00:35:23] I don't know how much you know about the hotel yourself but are they all the cells are made into the knocked into two they've knocked two cells apiece down there made into hotel rooms aren't they yeah yeah yeah I watch you see it on TikTok yes it's that way you've seen it yeah I'd seen it I couldn't remember if it was YouTube or TikTok but I know I'd watched the video and I thought fucking hell I'd like to go there it looks pretty swanky as well though doesn't it it does it's done in a nice subtle way but it's all
[00:35:52] the original brick wall and everything isn't it but it's yeah exactly yeah yeah yeah yeah fucking hell exactly right then so ghosts of Bodmin jail so many of the souls that lost their lives on the noose remain the spirit of Matthew Weeks executed in 1844 for murdering his lover Charlotte Diamond is said to have been seen on several occasions as he wanders around the jail pleading his innocence sorry sorry I'm so sorry I shouldn't laugh at that
[00:36:22] I don't even know which bit you're laughing at my head's a weird thing all I can imagine imagine having a spirit box and you walk into one room and it says I didn't fucking kill her sorry sorry it's so childish I am a childish person guys I do apologise but exactly I mean I'm talking to a bloke who's got a fucking six foot Pikachu behind him that's part of the business all right
[00:36:52] right anyway another famous ghost of Bodmin jail is Selina Wadj speaking of Wadj send one up mate absolutely RIP Wadj forever my hero childhood hero anyone who doesn't know what the hell we're talking about there we have mentioned Wadj on an episode before I think it was the Stephen Clark episode so go and listen to that and you'll know what the hell we're talking about yeah yeah we did fucking hell exactly anyway so she was hanged for the murder of her younger Jesus Christ this took a dark turn she was
[00:37:21] Christ she was hanged for the murder of her younger disabled son in 1887 it has been said that she tries to grab any young children visiting the jail and also suppresses her feeling upon the pregnant women so she sounds like a lovely person sounds like a bitch well yeah exactly I didn't expect that by the way that really caught me off guard there try reading it because I thought he never pauses a dark shit but yeah fair play didn't see that coming
[00:37:52] exactly right one of either William or James Lightfoot has been seen down the ground floor cells they were both hanged for the murder of Neville Norway another ghost that has been seen in that is that of Anne Jeffries who roams around the jail and was left to starve to death as she did not admit to being a witch it was three months until she died leading many to believe she did in fact have supernatural powers fucking damn right three months I go six
[00:38:22] hours without something to eat and I'm fucking dying Jesus Christ I mean fair fair play like you'd expect maybe maybe tops really pushing the boat out a month three months well what is it like let's have a quick look here so how long can you survive without information about life expectancy is based on real world context such as hunger strikes and serious medical conditions
[00:38:52] with no food no water the maximum time the body can survive is thought to be about one week with water only but no food survival time may extend to two to three months so if she's getting water I mean I can't imagine they would be giving the water but you know what I'm saying fucking hell well yeah because you'd think if I were going to starve someone right if I go enter a serial killer mind here then you want to prolong it don't you well I mean I was going to say there
[00:39:21] weren't serial killers but I suppose they kind of were weren't they so obviously the people running the place hanging hanging and stuff but yeah anyway so I mean going off that then I mean maybe maybe she did maybe she didn't I mean maybe yeah maybe the answers we need here was she getting water that's the big question for the day yeah because if she wasn't getting water women's cow's a witch if she was getting water fine crack on love anyway Billy so a figure of a priest has been seen in the
[00:39:51] chapel area ghostly apparitions have been witnessed in the bar and restaurant area and mediums have come into contact with several spirits well they will do in the bar including one of a prostitute who was wrongfully executed how do you wrongly execute a fucking prostitute what the hell well because it won't be executed for prostitution I don't think that was a thing well then the fact that she's a prostitute is completely irrelevant isn't it it is but they have to get a sly dig in there
[00:40:21] slag but she didn't do it it is but as you read more I'm pretty sure I'm going to be right here it won't have anything to do with that anyway so yes she was wrongly executed in the area where they housed naval prisoners a thin gaunt looking man has been seen in one of the cells a what a thin gaunt looking man what's that who's that looks like a smack head like a crystal meth head proper like face people are red car then yeah
[00:40:50] yeah basically yeah most of the people have walked past your work yeah probably come in there as well to be fair yeah they do look at someone doesn't work exactly right anyway around a jail many visitors and staff often report the feeling of being watched orbs have been seen down the corridors footsteps have been heard voices rattling keys and people feeling as though they are being touched
[00:41:20] i mean you're going to hear footsteps you're going to hear voices and you're going to hear rattling keys it's a fucking hotel but yeah true true um maybe not the rattling keys because it's all fucking key cards now isn't it yes do you know the whole um feeling like you've been touched thing so have you relax before you go off topic have you ever have you ever can't do it now you've got to say have you ever been touched not like that but uh
[00:41:50] right have you ever felt like you've been touched by a force that you can't see well yeah you were there you fucking idiot after we left after we left the woods didn't we when i was convinced him would walk behind me brushed against that's not touched you did you feel like someone touched you yes that was why i bloody freaked out oh i thought you had someone no no so you had a hell of an experience and i didn't know that yeah fuck
[00:42:20] the first time that's ever happened to me feeling like i've been touched was six seven days ago seven days ago um i can't for life for the life of me remember where i was but all i remember yeah no i know but it was nowhere where you'd expect it to have happened um so it wasn't your balls then unfortunately not no i felt like uh like a tap just a single tap like as if
[00:42:50] someone had you know just got their fingers and gone like that on the top of my shoulder but it was clear as day and i just i was looking around you know when you just keep looking you like you expect something to happen or someone to be there you like were you outside or inside i was inside i was gonna say it might have been a bird i was either i was either at work or here i can't remember but i certainly felt it and i was i certainly didn't really know what to do with that situation i was just kind of stunned but that's
[00:43:19] the first time i've ever felt like i've been touched by a force i couldn't see didn't spook me i wasn't scared i was just kind of freaked out i think it was like broad daylight lights on whatever you didn't scare me in that way it didn't feel negative it just yeah spooked me a bit fair enough right then mate so just to finish off on this so many people have reported feeling tugging at their clothes and a popular experience is that is that of children
[00:43:48] screaming in the lower ground floor cells in the naval area stones have been thrown at the current owners and loud bangs have been heard inside the empty jail from the people outside key word there is fronts fronts fronts thrown at the owners get out you bastards that were out yeah no not so much that i feel like a lot of the time i always listen out for little things like that because you some people would think i'm a skeptic i'm not at all but i do like to try and
[00:44:18] rule out certain things like that i know what you're going to say you're going to say it's because the owners are saying that to get more people in aren't you exactly that yeah it's like that london one they know what they're doing do you know what i mean exactly like Liam if me and you bought a house and a serial killer had stayed in this house for one night mate we're going to sell that do you know what i mean as a business man you know what i mean exactly exactly but yeah mate that's it that's it that is the well nine most haunted hotels in the uk yeah well my
[00:44:48] favorite definitely jumped to the prison one obviously definitely 100% that's why i kept that as a little bonus one for you and they had the most information on it yeah fair enough yeah but uh no it was interesting interesting another york surprised me i didn't think that no york yeah i knew york would be on there man christ is one of the most haunted places in the country true true my new owners are from there unfortunately so kind of put me off
