[00:00:00] Hi everyone! Hello!
[00:00:02] Hello!
[00:00:02] Just to let you know that...
[00:00:04] We're gonna hawk our wares at you!
[00:00:06] Just to let you know that for the next couple of weeks we've got merch available.
[00:00:15] It won't be available forever, so if you want it go and get it.
[00:00:20] Thank you.
[00:00:22] Where can we find it?
[00:00:24] That's coming later.
[00:00:28] You'll have to find out!
[00:00:31] You'll be able to find it through the links in our socials.
[00:00:37] Enjoy the episode.
[00:00:39] Good luck editing that together.
[00:00:41] My unpopular opinion is a music one, and I know that Meg agrees with me on this because we've spoken about it before.
[00:00:49] I'm excited.
[00:00:51] I think that Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame deserves the adulation that Stevie Nicks enjoys.
[00:01:00] Yes, I wholeheartedly agree on that.
[00:01:03] Almost all of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs are Christine McVie, not Stevie Nicks.
[00:01:10] Christine McVie did Songbird, You Make Loving Fun...
[00:01:15] You Make Loving Fun is my favourite one.
[00:01:17] So good.
[00:01:18] I thought Tusk was your favourite.
[00:01:19] Oh, Tusk. Sorry, I forgot about Tusk. You Make Loving Fun and Tusk.
[00:01:24] Oh Daddy...
[00:01:27] It's fair if you don't know, I was just curious.
[00:01:30] A lot of them are my favourite.
[00:01:33] I love Stevie Nicks as well, do not get me wrong, but more of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs are the contributions of Christine McVie.
[00:01:42] What's your favourite one?
[00:01:44] I can't tell you my favourite. Oh, Everywhere! She did Everywhere.
[00:01:47] Dreams?
[00:01:48] No, sorry, Dreams is Stevie Nicks.
[00:01:52] Oh shit, yeah.
[00:01:54] Never mind, we'll get rid of that.
[00:01:56] And that's a lot of people's favourite and I don't think it's all that.
[00:01:59] I mean it's better than most songs because it's Fleetwood Mac but it is not their best.
[00:02:04] We're big fans of Fleetwood Mac, I've got almost all their records.
[00:02:07] Which actually is sad and something because I've got a lot.
[00:02:10] I go back and forth, I really, really enjoy listening to Big Love.
[00:02:16] Because I think the guitar riffs are incredible.
[00:02:18] But I really like Everywhere a lot.
[00:02:22] Let's go back to unpopular opinions because everyone likes Fleetwood Macs.
[00:02:25] After our Balamori episode we went to Brixton and it was like a Fleetwood Mac night and Everywhere started.
[00:02:34] And it's been ruined for me forever because the beginning of Everywhere goes...
[00:02:43] I noticed this because they were like, oh it wasn't the song, it was in a club so it was being mixed, right?
[00:02:51] And it was the very last bit and I didn't know what song was coming.
[00:02:55] And they were like, oh yeah, it's Everywhere, it's Fleetwood Mac.
[00:02:58] And I was like...
[00:02:59] BALAMORI!
[00:03:03] And it really, really does sound like Balamori.
[00:03:08] I'm going to double check this.
[00:03:09] And I've got a further confession which I have not spoken to Meg about.
[00:03:13] Why is it all in relation to Meg?
[00:03:16] You've also told me the Fleetwood Mac.
[00:03:18] Oh have I?
[00:03:19] She told me yesterday when we were discussing our unpopular opinions.
[00:03:23] So I do think that Christine McVie is an underrated member of Fleetwood Mac.
[00:03:27] I also think that...
[00:03:29] Nick Fleetwood is an overrated member.
[00:03:32] No, I do not like Edge of 17 by Stevie Nicks.
[00:03:38] That is unpopular.
[00:03:40] I know, I know.
[00:03:41] You know when Jimmy Carr is like, oh I'm going to be cancelled for this and you're like, no you're just being annoying?
[00:03:47] I actually feel a bit...
[00:03:50] I can't un-hear those lyrics as Just Like A Right Wing Dove.
[00:03:55] I hear it every time I listen to it.
[00:03:58] What is it?
[00:03:59] Just like a right wing dove sings a song, sounds like she's singing ooh, ooh.
[00:04:07] Yeah that one.
[00:04:08] I don't know.
[00:04:09] It actually reminds me of Being 17 as well.
[00:04:11] Now that we're singing it, I'm actually like, oh it's not bad.
[00:04:14] But when it comes on, I'm like...
[00:04:17] The Miley Cyrus and her one is really good.
[00:04:19] It is good.
[00:04:20] I'm listening and I'm like, it's too much on my ears.
[00:04:24] Like it goes on for a bit too long I think.
[00:04:26] I don't know.
[00:04:27] I think I've heard it too many times.
[00:04:28] Which is wild to me because Fleetwood Mac was not a popular band when I was at school.
[00:04:33] So I didn't really know anyone that knew any Fleetwood Mac until I met Meg.
[00:04:38] You didn't grow up in the indie scene in Hull?
[00:04:42] No.
[00:04:43] We did.
[00:04:44] So indie-ish scene in Singapore?
[00:04:48] The radio in Singapore is like really strange.
[00:04:52] You can attest to this.
[00:04:53] We were in a car once, we heard Ghostbusters on their version of Capital FM.
[00:04:57] And it's like they don't play current music, they play random shit.
[00:05:02] Yeah it was weird hearing Ghostbusters.
[00:05:04] Speaking of indie music and Hull, do either of you two have a favourite out of
[00:05:09] House Martins or Fleetwood Mac?
[00:05:10] Not Fleetwood Mac, Beautiful South.
[00:05:12] Beautiful South.
[00:05:13] The House Martins.
[00:05:14] I prefer the House Martins.
[00:05:16] I couldn't even say.
[00:05:18] I don't know.
[00:05:19] Oh okay.
[00:05:20] I 100% prefer the House Martins.
[00:05:23] I used to listen to the House Martins a lot.
[00:05:25] I am someone that...
[00:05:29] Again this is an unpopular opinion.
[00:05:31] I don't like music that's sad or slow.
[00:05:36] Everyone says I have to listen to music that's not necessarily a certain BPM but it's got
[00:05:43] to be a bop right?
[00:05:45] This is an amazing thing about Mac.
[00:05:47] She can't abide anything that's ballady or slow.
[00:05:51] No and a lot more House Martins songs are quite upbeat and cheerful sounding
[00:05:58] and a lot more Beautiful South songs are a bit more slow and mournful.
[00:06:01] The Beautiful South song that you do love is Don't Marry Her.
[00:06:06] Don't Marry Her is a really good song.
[00:06:08] I introduced the bop sort of scale or classification to my family because my dad and my brother
[00:06:17] were like oh this song and I went ah not a bop though and they were like what?
[00:06:22] And I was like let me explain.
[00:06:23] The bop scale yeah.
[00:06:26] Whereas like so let me give you an example of the bop scale.
[00:06:30] I'll give you a 10 out of 10 bop is...
[00:06:36] Espresso?
[00:06:38] No.
[00:06:39] Seven.
[00:06:40] It's like Don't Stop Your Feet by Junior Senior.
[00:06:44] That's a 10 out of 10 bop.
[00:06:47] And then anything that falls below like a four.
[00:06:53] I'm not really interested and I'll make some exceptions for like...
[00:06:57] Ben Howard probably a five.
[00:06:59] Like most of his stuff that's more upbeat.
[00:07:01] What a random artist to bring out as a marker.
[00:07:05] Ben Howard?
[00:07:06] You loser.
[00:07:09] What the fuck?
[00:07:10] That's so rude.
[00:07:11] He's just so random.
[00:07:12] I don't know any of the people you've mentioned.
[00:07:14] Meg what are your exceptions?
[00:07:16] Are there any slow songs or ballad songs?
[00:07:18] Yeah like so I like...
[00:07:19] James Bond.
[00:07:20] Yeah but they're kind of bops though right?
[00:07:22] His famous one isn't but...
[00:07:24] Yeah but her favourite...
[00:07:26] I guess your favourite is Three Wise Men.
[00:07:28] Oh yeah.
[00:07:29] Yeah.
[00:07:30] Or what's it...
[00:07:31] 1980...
[00:07:33] Oh this is a song but I can't remember what year it is but it's named after a year.
[00:07:40] I can't remember.
[00:07:41] Like some of like Billie Eilish's slower songs.
[00:07:44] I'll make an exception for those.
[00:07:46] But only if I find them interesting enough to listen to.
[00:07:50] And I know that because you like a lot of film score kind of stuff.
[00:07:54] If it's like classical stuff you can deal with a slower BPM right?
[00:07:59] I guess because classicals got instrumentation.
[00:08:02] Yeah because basically it's a vibe right?
[00:08:06] As long as a song is not actively bumming me out or boring me that's fine.
[00:08:11] Classical music doesn't generally bum me out or bore me but I find...
[00:08:17] We've talked about this before I find music so nostalgic.
[00:08:21] And songs will make me cry very easily or make me reminisce very easily.
[00:08:27] So you really have to be in the mood to listen to it?
[00:08:29] You told me this about Tracy Chapman's music once that you like it but you have to be in a very specific mood to listen to it.
[00:08:35] Yeah and I can't be in a danger zone either so I would class that as like a train or a bus.
[00:08:42] Somewhere where I'll easily cry.
[00:08:44] Right and sometimes it doesn't even necessarily need to be like fast or uplifting music.
[00:08:52] If it's a song that I listen to a lot during any particularly trying time in my life, I will not listen to it because of the memories.
[00:09:03] I'm a sucker for a ballad. I will sit on the tube facing other people and listen to this woman's work by Kate Bush. I don't care. I'll do it.
[00:09:11] Yeah I don't.
[00:09:14] I like basically all music.
[00:09:17] What a cop out answer.
[00:09:19] Okay fine, I don't tend to like rap music.
[00:09:22] Do you not?
[00:09:23] Unpopular opinion.
[00:09:24] That is quite unpopular actually.
[00:09:26] My brother's tried to get me into rap so many times.
[00:09:29] I played Elsie a song that my brother played me to try and get me into rap and it was fucking miserable.
[00:09:35] Do you remember it?
[00:09:36] Raps not... a lot of it is not happy at all.
[00:09:40] All the rap songs he's like oh this is still good, this is so interesting. They're always so fucking sad and I'm like I don't really want to listen to this.
[00:09:49] It's Eminem's holy ethos isn't it? My life is shit.
[00:09:53] We did go through Meg and I and to an extent Laura because we kind of forced her into it went through a phase of listening to Without Me.
[00:10:03] Without Me.
[00:10:04] I think I've heard it without me by Eminem. We really got into that one specific song for like one October.
[00:10:10] It's actually a really impressive skill to have to be able to do that beginning to end of that camp.
[00:10:15] Eminem is like... holds like a weird nostalgic place because I watched a lot of MTV as a kid.
[00:10:21] So I view it slightly differently.
[00:10:23] Well they tried to shut him down on MTV but it feels so different without me.
[00:10:28] I did like in the early 2010s when there were loads of those and they actually continued for the whole 2010s where they did rap and popular singer over and over and over again.
[00:10:40] Rihanna did a bunch of them though. I enjoyed those.
[00:10:43] Pitbull was the master of that.
[00:10:45] He's very fun. He's actually a fun rap. All of his music is quite upbeat.
[00:10:50] But yeah my brother's tried and I'm just like it's just not something I walk down the street listening to.
[00:10:57] I really prefer like current UK stuff.
[00:11:01] I do listen to quite a lot of UK rap. I think UK rappers are really good.
[00:11:07] And at work a playlist that we have on hard rotation is like 90s R&B.
[00:11:12] So I've been listening to a lot of like... what's his name?
[00:11:20] Neo.
[00:11:21] No not Neo.
[00:11:22] R&B.
[00:11:25] Oh what's he called?
[00:11:27] Not Shaggy but a lot of Shaggy.
[00:11:30] I do like R&B.
[00:11:31] R&B gets a bit lost on me because I'm here for the rhythm but not so much the blues.
[00:11:36] No what's he called?
[00:11:38] Sing a Bit.
[00:11:40] He did Ignition.
[00:11:43] Genuine?
[00:11:45] R Kelly!
[00:11:47] R Kelly yeah.
[00:11:48] Elsie!
[00:11:49] Well no I don't choose the playlist it's just on a lot.
[00:11:52] And Nelly, a lot of Nelly we've been listening to.
[00:11:55] Nelly is very good.
[00:11:56] I love Nelly.
[00:11:57] Yeah.
[00:11:58] Anyway.
[00:11:59] So if we... yeah that's our music.
[00:12:01] Oh yeah we had one didn't we?
[00:12:03] I put an Instagram post up and we'll go through some more later but I'll mention it now because it's relevant.
[00:12:09] Friend of the pod Matty he says...
[00:12:12] Not so much friend of the pod but like friend of us.
[00:12:15] Friend of the pod?
[00:12:17] Well are they friends of the pod if there's not been on the pod?
[00:12:19] Yeah we call everyone friend.
[00:12:21] Emily is friend of the pod.
[00:12:23] CJ.
[00:12:24] Anyway friend of the pod Matty.
[00:12:26] Hello Matty friend of the pod.
[00:12:28] Friend of the three doesn't cut it you know.
[00:12:31] He says that the Smiths are horrendously overrated.
[00:12:36] Okay.
[00:12:37] And of course I agree.
[00:12:40] I hate the Smiths.
[00:12:42] There's maybe two songs I like.
[00:12:44] And the two songs I like.
[00:12:46] I really like them because they're bops right?
[00:12:49] Not for me.
[00:12:51] Boris has got an annoying voice and he's a twat.
[00:12:54] Which ones?
[00:12:55] Hang the DJ?
[00:12:56] No.
[00:13:00] How soon is it now?
[00:13:02] How soon is now?
[00:13:04] That's not Meg's favourite no.
[00:13:05] No I didn't think so.
[00:13:06] No how soon is now is one of them.
[00:13:09] What difference does it make as your other one?
[00:13:11] What difference does it make as your other one?
[00:13:12] Thanks Cel.
[00:13:13] Because it's from Pride.
[00:13:15] I know Meg so intimately.
[00:13:17] I'm like no that's not your favourite this is your favourite.
[00:13:19] How soon is now is the other one I listen to.
[00:13:22] It is very funny when we walk around the house just saying some of their lyrics like it's conversation.
[00:13:27] They're just such ridiculous.
[00:13:28] Go on else.
[00:13:29] Morrissey was so real for
[00:13:32] I never, never want to go home
[00:13:35] because I haven't got one.
[00:13:37] Love that.
[00:13:39] I was looking for a job but then I found a job.
[00:13:42] Heaven knows I'm miserable now.
[00:13:44] How can you not love that?
[00:13:46] Honestly I mean yes Morrissey has an annoying voice and he's a twat but
[00:13:50] Johnny Maher is still there.
[00:13:52] I love Johnny Maher.
[00:13:53] Big fan of Johnny Maher.
[00:13:54] And I honestly think their music is really fantastic.
[00:13:58] No it's not.
[00:13:59] It is.
[00:14:00] I used to listen to it.
[00:14:01] Matty you're right.
[00:14:02] No it is fantastic music.
[00:14:04] I used to listen to it all the time when I was a teenager.
[00:14:06] A shocker of a shock.
[00:14:07] I really don't reach for it these days.
[00:14:09] This charming man nothing.
[00:14:11] I have a jumper with the lyrics to fucking
[00:14:14] The Bus Swan.
[00:14:15] The Bus One.
[00:14:16] There is a light that never goes out.
[00:14:18] I never, never want to go home because I haven't got one.
[00:14:20] Please please let me get what I want.
[00:14:22] I used to listen to that all the time.
[00:14:24] He did get what he wanted.
[00:14:25] He got a job.
[00:14:26] But then I don't know.
[00:14:27] Heaven knows he misses miserable now.
[00:14:29] I just stopped listening to them.
[00:14:31] Like I don't dislike them.
[00:14:32] He grew out of them.
[00:14:33] I just stopped.
[00:14:34] I went to Smith's cover band once with my aunt.
[00:14:39] They were actually really good.
[00:14:41] When Horrible Histories did the Smiths and it was Charles Dickens.
[00:14:45] That just worked.
