Funny Mummies is back: Josie Long, Chantel Nash and Lucy Porter join Hatty Ashdown for new video series

Funny Mummies creator and comedian Hatty Ashdown is back with the podcast that puts women in comedy centre stage.

Returning in January 2027 and produced by independent comedy podcast network Podomedy, the series sees Hatty reunite with old friends and fellow stand-ups for conversations about life on and off stage, the absurdity of parenting and everything women are when they're not being called Mum. Guests include Josie Long, Chantel Nash and Lucy Porter confirmed for its first three episodes.

In a 2023 Guardian feature exploring the challenges faced by mothers in comedy, Hatty spoke about losing out on bookings because promoters assumed her material would only appeal to parents. Her response was simple: "a good joke is a good joke".

It's an attitude that runs through Funny Mummies. No parenting lectures, no perfect families, just comedians talking about the stuff that makes life difficult, ridiculous and occasionally wonderful.

The opening episodes bring together three generations and perspectives from the comedy circuit. Josie Long is a long-time friend of Hatty's, Chantel Nash a fellow stand-up, and Lucy Porter one of British comedy's most familiar faces.

Hatty Ashdown said:

“I started Funny Mummies because there’s this idea that having kids somehow makes you less interesting or less funny. Whereas, as a comedian, you think, brilliant, a whole load of new material and possibly an excuse to get out of bedtime.

I also wanted to find out how other comedian Mums juggle family life with working in entertainment. I’m naturally nosy and love hearing people’s stories, especially because no two families are ever quite the same. If we can make someone laugh on their way to work, or while sitting in the dark desperately trying to get their child to sleep, then job done.

I’m so excited to have Josie, Chantelle and Lucy joining me. They’re some of my favourite women and comedians I admire enormously. What I love is that we can go from talking absolute nonsense to something really personal in the space of a few minutes. And we’re filming it this time too, which is slightly terrifying.”

Funny Mummies is filmed at The Podcast Room in London to help capture the moments that deserve to be shared and might otherwise stay between friends.

Damien St John, Co-Founder of Podomedy, said:

"One of the things I love about Funny Mummies is that it doesn't treat being a mum as someone's entire personality. These are brilliant comedians with fascinating lives, and Hatty has a knack for getting to the good stuff. We're bringing cameras into the mix because some of the best moments deserve to be seen as well as heard."

Funny Mummies returns in January 2027, with the first three episodes released fortnightly, accompanied by video and social content.

Partnerships

Podomedy is inviting brands to partner with Funny Mummies ahead of its return. Opportunities include series sponsorship, integrated video and social content, offering brands the chance to reach women balancing family, careers and their own ambitions through comedy rather than conventional advertising.
