Not that anybody asked but this week we blew into the cartridge and mashed the reset button because we're figuring out our Top 3 Movies That Should Have A Video Game. Hollywood loves a tie-in, but somehow the good ones always get left on the cutting room floor while we're stuck button-mashing through licensed disasters instead. Which films are crying out for a janky adaptation, a cheat code and an ill-advised escort mission? What will make our final Top 3 list this week? Expect a good use of "skulking, power-washing the shape of a phallus into the side of a digital van, and The Great Mosquito Massacre

[00:00:00] I'll be back at some point, so I'm up for it if you want to. You dirty stop out, you. Haven't used the phrase dirty stop out in a long time. You guys are making a podcast. No one asked for this. Welcome to The Podcast Nobody Asked For with me, Ian Harries.
[00:00:28] And me, Graham Jones. And this is the podcast where we argue about a top three list of a topic that nobody asked us to talk about. We've each bought three to... Fuck, fucked up this time as well. Yeah, practice. God, I am. But to be fair, I think you might have just played a video then, and what sounded like the sultry acoustic guitar tones seemed to really throw me off. Shall I try again? Yeah, I was closing my phone, and it opened on a video that was, Hey there, Delilah. What's it like in New York City?
[00:01:02] Welcome to The Podcast Nobody Asked For with me, Ian Harries. Oh, and me, Graham Jones. This is the podcast where we argue... Maybe if I go slower. This is the podcast where we argue about our top three list of a topic that nobody asked us to talk about. We've each bought three picks to talk through, and then we'll be figuring out... I'll speed up again now. And The Podcast Nobody Asked For is official top three movies that should have a video game. Which is nice. Which is good, Graham.
[00:01:27] It's been a while since we've talked about video games as an episode. Any guesses on when the last time was? Oof. No. Did we do something around when the first Mario movie came out, maybe? So, the last video game episode we did was episode 26, which came out the 1st of April 2021. Wow. Which, you may have noticed, is five years ago.
[00:01:57] Which, terrifying. Terrifying, really, when you think about it, isn't it? The passage of time, Graham. Oh, sir. Things going on till the inevitable heat death of the universe, sir. Oh, sir. Oh. Oh, God. Yeah. Anyway, video games. But, so that episode was the reverse of this one. Video games that should be a movie. Yeah. How many of them are now movies? Half of them. Nice. Well, actually, no.
[00:02:26] Half of them are now TV shows. Okay. So, your choices were Ocarina of Time, Bioshock Infinite, and PT, which was the playable test demo for Silent Hill. Mine were Fallout 3, Lilac Wars, and Cuphead. And now, Fallout 3 and Cuphead are already out as TV shows. Ocarina of Time and Bioshock Infinite are currently in development.
[00:02:53] Fox McCloud from Lilac Wars did have a cameo in the latest Super Mario movie. Yes. So, you could kind of half count that. And there's a new Star Fox game coming out, right? Yes. On the Switch 2. Yes. Yes. Yes. A racing one? Something like that. Star Fox. Switch 2. No, not a racing one. That's a Star Wars game. I'm getting my stars mixed up. Could it well be? Adventure Star.
[00:03:23] The only rumors that they suggest an Adventure Star entry or remastered could be explored, blah, blah. Don't know. But yeah. Something's coming. Something's happening. Something's happening. You said that like a man in the woods who senses a change in the weather, and I've got a lot of time for that. Something's coming. Oh, it's out now. Buy it. There was one where you had a magic stick and fought dinosaurs. Star Fox one? Yeah. Is there? Yeah.
[00:03:51] Are you sure you didn't dream that? No, definitely was. But I don't want to Google when it came out, because again, it's one of those things I feel like came out recently, but I was definitely at school. So I don't need that today, Graham. Again. Yeah, and for the record, Ian has not been near any schools recently. No. Been near a church, though. Been in a church. Actually, that's a lie, Graham. We walked to a school a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, fair point. We didn't get... Well, we went in the car park. Yeah.
[00:04:20] We loitered in the car park of a primary school. Because on... Tottenham. On the match and gig days, it becomes stadium parking. Yeah. God, System of a Down were good, weren't they? They were phenomenal. Ah. Absolutely phenomenal. Mad lads. System of a Down must have done a song on a video game somewhere. We'll just use that as a tangent back into the world of video games. What have you been playing recently, Graham?
[00:04:49] I am about 30% of the way into 007 New Light, First Light, whatever it's called. Can't remember. Something about light. It's great, though. Oh, yes. Yeah. It's by the Hitman people, right? Yeah, yeah. It's definitely got Hitman vibes. Good story thus far. Good acting. Lenny Kravitz is in it, obviously. Tried to feed me to a crocodile at one point. In the game, not... I've never met Lenny Kravitz.
[00:05:20] Are you going to go that way? Nice. Yeah, it's really, really good. It's probably the best James Bond game since GoldenEye, but it's also not trying to... It's its own thing. And like you say, because it's from the Hitman guys, it's a little bit more... Because it's third person, it's leaning in that kind of thing. And you can do some cool stuff, like if you get caught, you can...
[00:05:46] Because it's a mix of the skulking around in the shadows and finding things out, but also going balls-to-the-wall license to kill as well. But... Good use of skulking there. Thank you. But if you get caught skulking, you can use your charisma points to say, pretend you're a waiter in a whatever. It's quite fun. Yeah. Or say something sexually charged. Yes.
[00:06:15] Like, I thought Christmas only came once a year. Fuck me. I can't believe that was said in a film. I mean, they have a whole movie called Octopussy. Like... Yeah, that is a fair point. The 60s were a different time. Yeah. Something like that. Past was a different country, and they made James Bond films there. Yeah. And then I...
[00:06:42] Outside of that is like, if I get 20 minutes, I will hate to play FC 26, which is basically FIFA, because I like playing football games, but this one's really shit. And very similar to Madden. They don't really bother doing anything, but I will still give them ÂŁ70 a year to let me play the new one, because it's got the new names in it, and I'm an idiot. But yeah, it's also quick. Something you can sit down with for 20 minutes and breeze through a game. I know what you've been playing, Ian, for two reasons.
[00:07:11] One, you did tell me the other day, and two, it's been... It popped up on my PlayStation home screen the other day that you have been recently playing Power Wash Simulator. No, that's incorrect. Me and my wife have recently been playing Power Wash Simulator 2. Ah, sorry. The new improved one. Wildly addictive. Yeah, you play two Power Washers, and you just clean a series of things and places. Crazy addictive. I've been playing that.
[00:07:40] I've been playing a game called Abiotic Factor, which is like a survival co-op game. So you're set in Australia, randomly, but you're basically a scientist who gets stuck in an underground, probably evil bunker that's had like a containment breach. I've played it online with friends of the pod, Ryan and Murray, and you can only hear characters who are near you.
[00:08:09] So there'll be bits of it where you're away from the group, and you're literally just kind of like, hello? Is anyone here? Like, Murray and I literally found a portal in it, looked at it, and then just kind of went, we should go get Ryan. So left it there, found Ryan. It was like, Ryan, we found something. And then all trekked across the map to go into the portal together, because we're buds. Nice. I'd, I'll be honest, probably left Ryan to his own devices.
[00:08:38] Yeah, I mean, we all had the same device, because it was on the PlayStation. See what I did there? Nice. A bit of device humour. But it was fun. It was fun. So yeah, a lot of that, and then a lot of cleaning stuff. What was the last game you completed? Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I can bring mine back to movies. I say recently, probably about six months ago now, did the Guardians of the Galaxy game. Surprisingly good.
[00:09:07] Which is so, yeah, it has no right to be as good as it is. It's fantastic. Um, the last game I completed, and, uh, there's like a final dungeon thing I could do on it, was Yakuza Like a Dragon. Oh yeah. There's a few games, that one included, that I only know of, because it pops up at the bottom of my home screen that you've played it recently. Yeah, that's fair. I have played, I played a lot of hours of that over a depressing,
[00:09:36] it was Chicago Fire all over again. So was it, um, is it like in the GTA mode? No. So the, so the, the first games in the series were like a kind of like a beat-em-up type of, like you would kind of like, I get, I don't know what to compare it to. Not quite Grand Theft Auto, but you'd roll around beating the shit out of people. Right. From here onwards, it's a JRPG. Okay. But it's done very tongue in cheek. It's kind of like a piss tape.
[00:10:04] Like, like it's a parody, I think of that style of games, but also is like a pastiche of like Yakuza films. So it's a very, very serious, it was a very, very serious plot. Yeah. And then all the fighting and stuff like that is absolutely mental. Nice. I've not played a JRPG in a year. I, I am definitely too old to have the time to play a JRPG. I just couldn't, just wouldn't be able to. Yeah. I mean, it's, I strongly recommend power washing things, man. Why?
[00:10:33] Some people, some people at your age would go under the knife, but you just get power washing games. There is nothing in me that would want to power, if something at my house needed power washing, and I know you're going to, you're going to lay into me for this, I would pay a man to do it. Really? Hey, I'd love to, I'd do it for you. I'd love to power wash something. Immediately. I think within five minutes, within five minutes of playing Power Wash Simulator,
[00:11:00] I had cleaned the shape of a phallus into the side of a van. Yeah. If anyone out there has also played Power Wash Simulator 2, please reach out to us on Instagram at the podcast nobody asked for. Or Harley, tell us what it's like as a job. I just like to think that Harley just goes around like soaping dicks into things. Just soaping dicks. That's a Mormon thing, isn't it? Soaking. Ah, okay, okay. And they like, they get a friend to like jump on the mattress?
[00:11:30] Yeah, so soaking is a bit of the all in out becomes a bit of the all in. Yeah. And then it's not your fault if the bed is, the bed moves. Yes. I don't, all right, so let's take a step back, shall we? Okay. So, Riverside is very good at cancelling out background noise. Yeah.
[00:11:54] I don't know if I'm going to be able to edit out the sound of what can only be described as a mosquito massacre that is currently happening in the background of Graham's video. Yeah. Yeah. I bought a pretty gnarly fly zapper the other day because we had a bit of a, I don't know if you've had the same, but recently there's just been fucking flies everywhere. So the old one wasn't cutting it.
[00:12:20] So I've gone up to a big boy and it's quite satisfying to see them just made the dog jump the other day. Yeah. Yeah. It's the, obviously the hard thing for us here is you're now hard as a rock recording the podcast, which is, which is obviously tough for us all. But yeah. Sorry. Sorry. On what basis? Because you're just, you're just sitting there just going, oh, it's very impressive, isn't it?
[00:12:50] Look at the number of mosquitoes. It's wiped out. This is getting full on flies. We had a wasp on there the other day. Yeah. This is so we're 14 minutes into recording. I think we're averaging like a dead insect every two minutes. Yeah. I'm just, but the good thing is not only is this warning for, you know, the noise of the deaths is a warning for the flies in the immediate vicinity. There's another one.
[00:13:17] But because we've got it recorded and we're going to put it out, I'm getting the word out to flies everywhere, globally, Singapore. Singapore, Singapore, I'm assuming is quite mosquito dense. So hopefully our listeners out there. I don't know, but they're also like, they're like one of the cleanest places. I reckon they've figured it out. I would put money on the fact that Singapore have figured mosquitoes out. If you are in Singapore and want to reach out or are in Singapore or the middle of the
[00:13:43] Venn diagram of are in Singapore and have played Powerwall Simulator 2, reach out on the Instagram. And are a mosquito. Yeah. And are a mosquito. I mean, like it's, there's, if they've sorted it out, there's a chance they wouldn't know what a mosquito is. It's just something they've read in textbooks. Like our friend with trains. Yeah. True. Yeah. So actually, to be fair, I bet there weren't many mosquitoes in Iceland either. No, true. So Arnie, who you may recognize as the person who did, oh fuck, I still think I've got the
[00:14:13] sample queued up. So Arnie, the man who said, born and raised Icelandic, as we said, didn't see a train until he was 14. And I don't know why, but I have become obsessed with that detail. But then also not again after that until he was 18. Yeah. And it was, it was a train from the North, I believe he was very clear with. But yeah, fascinating stuff. What a wonderful weird world we live in. But yeah.
[00:14:43] So what, I mean, we've already kind of like talked a little bit because you're playing a James Bond game, but it's specifically James Bond based on books, not on films. I don't even know if it's based on, it feels like an original, I don't know if it is. But it's, so it's original. First Light. But it's based off of, it's the character more from the books. Right. Okay. Which is why he's got a facial scar. And what movie tie-in games have you played and enjoyed, apart from the obvious of GoldenEye,
[00:15:11] which I think was a formative game for an entire generation of nerds? Yeah. I obviously mentioned the Guardians game, which is very good. All of the, I mean, it's probably, actually, I will say, I was going to say the Spider-Man games, but the Spider-Man games aren't necessarily movie adjacent apart from, I don't know if you remember the PlayStation 2 Spider-Man game that was based off of the movie. That was shit, but lots of fun.
[00:15:39] Uh, 2004. Yeah. The Spider-Man 2 game. Yeah, yeah. That was based on Spider-Man 2. That's exactly the one I'm thinking. So fucking, because it was the first one where I think you had like proper like, open world swinging. Yeah, yeah. Open world swinging is, um, is, uh. Pineapple simulator. Yeah, pineapple simulator, yeah. Pineapple and pampas grass. yeah we we've talked about this before because obviously every choice is it but um did you ever
[00:16:07] play the thing game which was a sequel to the thing yeah was that on the n64 i think it was but n64 was the same yeah but i don't i don't think it was on n64 i thought it was on the the lord of the rings the two towers was a fantastic yes video game do you want to say the trivia it is the we've we've spoken about here before right but the whole engine for it was the pga golf game because it was all about traveling long distances so they just basically
[00:16:36] repurposed a golf game to to make two towers yeah god yeah i also had empire strikes back on the snes which was just great because like you just basically ran around hoth smashing shit up and then you never got any further than that because you obviously couldn't save games on the snes and i
[00:16:58] was like six at the time oh i finished um uh super mario land for the first time the other day nice because i only ever played it as a child and was shit at it so never actually finished the game until i played it on an uh the switch has got like their game boy emulator yeah yeah which is nice i did like
[00:17:23] there was a whole all like the snes mega drive like there were a load of like disney tie-ins like there was a lion king yeah and it's fucking impossible yeah but wasn't the have you not read the trivia about that why they designed it in such a way no so apparently during that time period um game makers were seeing a decline in sales because of the rise in video store rentals
[00:17:51] right and the basically people would rent a game play it over the weekend complete it and give it back so they intentionally made the game so hard that you couldn't complete it in a weekend therefore you would go and purchase the game is what i read i don't know how true it is but that's that's what i could believe that game could fuck itself yeah and also similar aladdin came out as
[00:18:15] two separate games on the sega and the snes they were released at the same time but they were with different studios and a very slightly different but very similar yeah and you had to have both then you could trade the the people between the two bit of pokemon humor for you there yeah nice um interesting you got a load of lego games the lego games are quite fun i do love me some lego uh
[00:18:42] lego star wars but there's indian jones is fun lego dr asap park there's ari potter lego the incredibles yeah uh lego the lego movie there is a lego movie game which is confusing yes god there was uh this is now just us going god and there was this one there was that one we're definitely
[00:19:04] past the era of like every every video game that came from a movie was crap and every movie that came from a video game was crap i think we're we're way past that yeah a hundred percent we're also kind of like the official tie-in now seems to more be um like a call of duty dlc or a fucking fortnight skin
[00:19:28] or it's like an add-on to an existing game right we had that whole bit from the kill bill um thing that was all like filmed yes which was bitterly disappointing back in my day games were their own thing um yeah it is it's it's crazy how things change what a world i get i get from a if i put my
[00:19:56] marketing hat on i absolutely get it there's a whole because we need to remember that kill bill is like what 20 years old like that kids now that are playing fortnight probably this is the thing right kill bill to kids now playing fortnight is the same as like the i don't know the godfather trilogy and taxi driver was to us when we were that age you're having you're having a twitch yeah that's uh
[00:20:25] that's that's no i don't like that but it's true it is it's like i so i get it do i like it no and i'm playing the old man card i'm having i'm i'm i'm nearly 40 i'm 18 months away from 40 and i can be a grumpy old man i don't yeah i don't i'm i am trying so hard to not be that guy like for i don't get like fortnight or minecraft or that kind of stuff very aware this is the oldest i've ever
[00:20:55] sounded like i don't i don't get it it's not for me that's fine doesn't mean it's bad which a lot of people a lot of people will make the thing of like this is shit it's like no it's just not for you to be fair the guy that guy that wrote minecraft he um he was a not a he was not a good egg really
[00:21:14] yeah he had like the whole invading poland um i i think you mean mein camp ah silly me yeah yeah yeah so i always get those two mixed up yeah no so made for a really really strange history essay uh back in and also it was in 2001 so um they had no idea what i was on about with the creepers um
[00:21:43] anyway um the one thing i i i do not understand which is not a specific game is i do not understand the popularity of watching someone else play a video game and be on screen at the same time for two reasons one don't care enough about anyone's opinions to watch them play video games and two i don't have enough time to play video games i certainly don't have time to watch other
[00:22:13] people play video games so i just don't get it yeah i don't i don't understand that either again it but there's no way to talk about it without sounding ancient and we're not those guys we're young and hip graham we're young and hip yes yes we are it yeah i don't i i uh uh the what was our it'd be pokemon
[00:22:42] i guess would be like our like i think that would be the first thing i was properly into that my parents just made the call of nope don't understand this we're done yeah pogs actually probably before pokemon crazy bones crazy bones crazy bones were post pogs yes i'm pretty sure yeah i feel like pogs went massive and then there were loads of things that tried to be pogs because there was
[00:23:09] crazy bones there was also like these weird sticks that you could plastic sticks that you'd flick um and other associated bits of plastic crap uh yeah i think that's probably yeah pogs is pogs pokemon um new metal yes yeah pogs pokemon and new metal is a very like that'll be like your book on the 90s
[00:23:34] yeah um right uh we've talked at length which has just become us reminiscing about games and then ruining the fact that we're old um yeah so the idea of this is we're going to pick a film which we think needs to have uh um a video game tie-in like the games of yesteryear but before we do that it's time for a movie recommendation that nobody asked for and this time it is mine
[00:23:59] i uh assume you guys are here for a movie recommendation no thank you yeah i'm fine nah i'm fine i'm all right actually thank you nah i'm fine it's all right i'm fine fuck off uh so my choice graham yes this is a film about uh somebody who plays a video game
[00:24:23] right and then gets sucked into the video game nice so this is the intergalactic adventures of max cloud which is a british sci-fi movie that came out in 2020 starring scott adkins's max cloud of course and it is my 29th scott adkins film of the year is that a recent one uh yeah i realized
[00:24:48] it was a film i realized it would line up for this episode i watched it while working this week cool i had to sub i i had to subscribe i get a free trial for channel 101 which seems to predominantly be asylum movies nice okay so just to just to throw it out there um you proudly announced to me on less than a week ago last friday whilst we were screening life of brian that uh you hadn't watched a
[00:25:17] scott adkins film in three weeks yeah yeah so i'm back off the adkins wagon unfortunately yeah back on the adkins diet yeah like i i will be honest this was honestly an awful lot of stupid fun cool uh it's him uh tommy flanagan good bad movie territory um you potentially but also it's just legitimately fun like it's stupid rather than good bad movie right okay so it's scott adkins uh
[00:25:47] tommy flanagan who's the guy with the fucked up face from gladiator and sons of anarchy and um uh the brother from the mummy films john hannah oh yeah uh and yeah it's just it's just really silly and stupid and i got a lot of time for it i'd probably rewatch it uh but yeah that is that's my my
[00:26:07] my movie recommendation this week lovely stuff and if um you perchance aren't subscribed to channel 101 um and want something a little bit more accessible uh anything else that people should watch this week yeah so i think there is nothing as accessible as a strong community graham and uh that brings us on
[00:26:34] to ariesta's midsummer uh the 2019 cult cult horror film uh yeah i was trying to think of a video get like what a tie-in video game for midsummer would look like yeah i think like cult of the lamb yeah that that makes sense cult of the lamb would make for a great tv show yeah fucking love cult of the lamb strongly recommend it there's no world where you can explain cult of the lamb to someone
[00:26:59] and it sounds like a real video game so yeah people should go out and go out and give it a go uh and on that note it's time for us to figure out the podcast over the arse for his top three movies that should have a video game and the first choice is yours we've already talked about it actually um the whole kind of lilac wars um starfox piece
[00:27:28] there's not a huge amount of like outside of like the microsoft flying simulator stuff which feels far too involved and i would give it the same criticism as and i i also will preface this with i understand why it is like it is because people want that full-on like immersive experience um but playing it feels too much like a job in the same way the new football manager games feel like too much like a
[00:27:55] i mean who would who would get addicted to a simulator game yeah precisely i don't think there's any that we i feel like we've been robbed of like fun flying games like accessible flight like the lilac wars and and whatnot so i was trying to think okay well what else is out there that we could we could have the and obviously there's bits and pieces like within you can fly shit in
[00:28:18] and whatnot but something that's dedicated to it and it's like what feels like a movie that should be a video game and there's flying and it's obviously top gun maverick like it the movie itself just feels like an over-the-top video game you've got in the same way like red alert 2 has like the mystery bad guys who kind of aren't a specific country you've got that whole thing
[00:28:46] you've got the arc of like being from you know coming in as a newbie to then going and like you know being the hero i mean the first hour of that film is basically a tutorial mission precisely so yeah yeah i just think i just think it'd be a lot of a lot of fun really um no more no fuck me i love that film that's great it's so good and it has it's so much better than
[00:29:12] it has any right to be it there's no world it should be that good yeah but like i will re-watch i i there's definitely a future episode in like we talked about like re-watchable scenes and things like that i think once a month minimum i watch maverick doing the training run um because it's also got my favorite low-key celebration where like the officer just kind of sits there and just kind
[00:29:35] like fist bumps himself but it's yeah i wasn't expecting a lot coming in and no i wasn't at all nobody was if they're being honest with themselves but it was it's the perfect example of how to do a legacy sequel yeah and that's horrifying and it's just as gay yeah and you could have a mini game of like because they play american football on this one on the beach right so that's bisexual american
[00:30:00] football because it goes both ways yes so that could be uh that could be the mini game that that you can uh you can play like during the loading screen or something and yeah it would just be like very simple you get in a plane you fly a plane you blow shit up and you get points at the end and then you rinse and repeat so would you would you have it like on rails like the lilac wars game or would you have a bit more not not open world but like an open map kind of like can you go where you want
[00:30:28] that is what i'm saying i think i would borrow from mario kart world in the sense that like when you go into mario kart world it is a complete open mode you can go and do whatever you want and then the specific mission or race is more yeah on rails but i'm but i mean because on lilac wars it's literally you can't fly around the map it's more you move around the screen as the screens are
[00:30:58] moving through the level yeah yeah yeah but that's also the same as mario kart to be fair if you watch mario kart the world moves around you the car doesn't move oh yeah but it also in mario kart you could if i wanted to reverse and go the other way i could in lilac wars you can't because it's on rails yeah but i also don't think you can reverse a plane either so i mean yeah ah diddy con racing was a good game diddy con racing was great yeah anyway where were we anyway yeah this feels like a game
[00:31:24] i would put money on it having been dlc for like oh fuck is it ace combat it's like the one flying game i could think of yeah yeah yeah you're right there isn't really any all of the i tried to play like uh ace combat was one of the like games of the month on right um playstation down playstation yeah and it exactly like what you said at the beginning like it's even the flying games that
[00:31:51] aren't like the full-on like you need a joystick level simulator yeah even the step down from that is so involved it's not fun yeah i think that's it it needs that level of like simplicity to the controls yeah like uh the rogue squadron games yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah game games that are on games that are on the list of games i never want to play again because i remember them very very
[00:32:17] fondly but i know if i look back on them they're going to be absolute dirt yeah what did i do i got when i bought a ps5 i hadn't had a playstation since the ps2 so i was trying to like really and there's a lot of those ones like great games got have had remasters great but i bought like the uncharted box set of everything because i've never played an uncharted game obviously heard very good
[00:32:43] things back but like the first uncharted game is basically unplayable yeah well uh goldeneye as well like it's so difficult yeah yeah i wouldn't i don't think i'd even try goldeneye because i don't want to tarnish those memories of being odd job in the toilets exactly which sounds like an incredible i'm just going to drop odd job off in the toilet yeah yeah no i like top gun i i think out of all of
[00:33:12] our choices i think there are two that i am most surprised aren't games already yeah and that's one of them yeah i'm with you it is it is surprising so the other game that i'm most surprised isn't a video game uh because it is like it is the most video gamey film i've ever seen and it's another tom
[00:33:37] cruise film so this is uh 2014's edge of tomorrow or edge of tomorrow live die repeat depending on what time you saw the film and it is uh action movie groundhog day where tom cruise keeps dying and waking up at the beginning of his day and there's aliens and he fights aliens in a mech suit alongside
[00:34:01] emily blunt who's got a sword and a mech suit and that reeks of video game what was the big titanfall that was fun with the mech suits titanfall was incredible um titanfall 2 is one of the best like first person shooter games i've played this would be like i'm kind of torn between that's natalie brunier not you nice uh actually it wasn't natalie brunier was a cover of someone else yeah but you know everyone knows no but still good good good for people to remember that
[00:34:31] um so not that i can remember who it was a cover of so i'm kind of proving the point if anything um so edge of tomorrow goes into uh exactly why i like uh the dark souls uh and bloodborne games where the whole point of that's another mosquito if you heard it um there's a kind of games on the i think you need a you need a counter if i can hear them i'll put yeah i'll put a buzzer in
[00:34:57] all right so yeah it's kind of like so the uh dark souls games if people have played them are excruciatingly difficult and the whole point if anything is that you keep dying and through that you're kind of learning how to beat people and moving through these levels and i really like the idea of an edge of tomorrow game being like that but a first person shooter so you just kind of keep like keep plugging away giving it the old college try and while you're doing that you're leveling up
[00:35:27] you're doing your things um emily blunt is a lot like tailor-made for a decent prequel uh or like flashback levels because she had the same thing um uh they they hark back to it during the film i think in the dun or something first world warry so you can have a couple of levels with her as well um also because you've got her there it ties itself into you could kind of have like a co-op side of
[00:35:54] things where you're both kind of going through these levels even though that makes the mechanic a little bit harder but i think it just ties up perfectly it explains why you can die and keep coming back um the creature design is really fucking cool you're in mech suits the guns are really cool and i i don't know what else you want from the game yeah no it sounds fun i i personally haven't been able to get on board with the that bloodborne dark souls series of games pissed me off tried it
[00:36:23] once didn't like it yeah as someone who earlier in this episode said something about not having enough time to play a jrpg you do not have enough time to play those games yeah yeah i think that's what it was i bought bloodborne tried it out there's a big dog pissed me off fucked it off after about 20 minutes that's fair enough you prefer small dogs as bowie is a testament to yes even
[00:36:50] though you did send me a message earlier saying i'm going to eat him i what i sent you earlier was a lesson in punctuation yes yes it was um now i love uh there's an elden ring film currently in development by the guy who did uh alex garland so of annihilation civil war fame and that could be very very good um or absolutely awful and i don't think there's going to be any middle ground on that at
[00:37:18] all but i think elden ring is one of the best games i've ever played it's phenomenal but yeah that but with guns i just like the idea it would be the warhammer 40k to elden rings warhammer uh which is the nerdiest comparison i could have made in a video game episode yeah yeah fucking love edge of tomorrow it's not not to keep harking back to like potential future episodes topics edge of
[00:37:44] tomorrow is the perfect like it's the first two-thirds of an incredible film and then just for the last the last 25 minutes is awful which is a shame a lot of i i'm due a re-watch i fucking love this film and brendan gleason's in it so you know it's good i've never seen it i beg your pardon what how what what really yeah i'll be honest and i know this is gonna sound ridiculous given my first pick but
[00:38:14] basically i've always been turned off by anything that tom cruise is in yeah but uh can i uh two counterpoints to that okay one he dies a lot yeah two emily blunt is in it fair three emily blunt does this yoga pose that will blow your mind is that one of the ways he dies uh potentially potentially um like i don't you must have seen the clip of her doing that it's like the one arms like plank kind of thing like even thinking of doing that my forearm would snap in half i'd love to watch
[00:38:43] you do a one-round plank we could try we can try i don't think it's gonna work i don't either which is kind of why i want to see it yeah we'll we'll we'll see if we get a new patreon subscriber between now and next episode right i will film an attempt of me trying to do the emily blunt yoga pose from edge of tomorrow cora goes that is worth at least the minimum tier which is like what two quid something like that one pound plus vat yeah like you know you get ad free episodes i'd like to
[00:39:12] apologize the amount of notification emails that came out about that my bad yeah it does feel like you're in like um apple notes territory over that given the uh messages we've had today two separate group chats talking about that's a lot of email notifications it's like well fuck me guys please sorry i don't know what happened there um yeah but yeah edge of edge of tomorrow is basically a video game anyway so we may as well make it a video game it's if the film came out 10 years earlier i think
[00:39:40] it would have had a video game time yeah it wouldn't it would not surprise me and also it's like um it's it's tom cruise just in video like movies that should be video game because like even like all the mission impossible films there was a mission impossible it was that was on n64 it was on n64 it was yeah but you know i mean like that it just feels like he's in films that are so ridiculous
[00:40:07] they could just be video games anyway yeah yeah maybe i'll very quickly change all of my choices to tom cruise movies a church of scientology simulator and your choice nice um i my next choice i'm gonna go um so first one was like yeah flying
[00:40:29] light of wars-esque good fun big bangs next one i'm gonna go back to a game sorry a style of game that i already talked about which is the lord of the rings the two towers right so those very long kind of linear playthroughs to get from one end of a big level to another with things to do along the way
[00:40:54] um and obviously in those games you switch through different characters depending on what you um were doing or you know what what kind of specific mission it's on i specifically want this to be like on the ps2 at the same time as lord of the rings two towers came out which is difficult because the movie came out much later than this however uh that is by the by um so i want
[00:41:21] that but it's inglorious bastards um and it's just following the uh brad pitt and his crew and each level is basically just going through mowing down nazis until you collect your hundred scalps sold my next choice one of our internet is going weird yeah i don't know which i haven't got anything here because you
[00:41:51] just yeah the thing is neither do i oh now it's literally just come up saying trying to reconnect make sure you have a stable internet connection weirdly just as that's come up you now sound fine odd i'm still getting that thing where i can hear everything but you're you're out of sync with it so so am i now very like jackie chan kung fu movie kind of territory yeah yeah to the point where that
[00:42:15] one was so pronounced it felt like you did it on purpose if i could if i could throw my voice in a way that it looked like i was doing the jackie chan kung fu movie dubbing then i would be very very happy i i wouldn't do anything else that's how i would spend my days there was a there was a comedian who did that as part of a set and honestly fantastic like fair play to the guy nice was it the the police academy guy it feels like that's something he would do or could do i don't
[00:42:44] think so i'll try and find it because there's a solid chance this is replacing the cold open now um anyway let's let's try let's try and and for want of a better phrase follow through so waves upon waves of nazis what i heard yeah pretty much i think just um again it's probably a nostalgia thing because i imagine if i go back and play the lord of the rings two towers game on the ps2 today it
[00:43:09] probably isn't that good but just it was so much fun it was such a good time to the movie i think you just replace legolas with brad pitt you replace gimley with eli roth and you replace hordes of orcs with hordes of nazis and you're just gonna have fun yeah especially like picking the eli roth it
[00:43:33] makes it makes the fact that eli roth was in the movie palatable because you could just beat up nazis with a baseball bat yeah i'm guessing so would you have it like kind of a more cartoony looking game or would you have it like no i think it's not realistic as such but i think i'd go with how they did the two towers right it was it was they tried it's it's ps2 graphics so it's like trying to be
[00:44:00] realistic but doesn't look realistic because it's right okay so it's accidentally cartoony anyway yeah yeah there's a level of graphical degradation because the the the machines can't can't keep up because of the past this is the past obviously uh because because we're using the same tech there'd be a mini game where you play golf yeah absolutely um and then um yeah obviously the the main thing
[00:44:27] would be going through and collecting your hundred scalps i like it i like it would you go through like so would wouldn't really be based on the film as such it would just be going through things and killing a load of nazis until you'd killed a certain amount yeah but it would be focused in on just i guess i guess what it is is it's aldo rain and his crew before you get to the point where
[00:44:53] introduce them in the movie because they've been out there obviously okay so between the bit when he does his intro speech you know and i will get my scalps and then they find the nazis in the woods in between they've been killing nazis we know that because yeah very true killing nazis is his business and son businesses are booming um therefore you're level up yeah you're in that bit and i guess you finish
[00:45:22] at the point that you get to um and maybe you still do maybe it goes all the way through like that's the bulk of the game then you do the bit in the woods and then you burn down the movie well you don't burn them you go to kill everyone in movie theater and then trizana burns down so yes loose loosely tied into the movie but with stuff that doesn't happen in the movie i like it the
[00:45:49] classic video game tie-in strategy yeah i that would really work wouldn't it really i think i like it i like it good because it's not quite top down but no it's kind of almost almost isometric just just good old-fashioned button mashing fun ah god i miss button mashing fun there wasn't a lot of button
[00:46:14] mashing in power watch simulator 2 it was more button holding god you're making it sound interesting yeah i shit thee nay i'm fairly sure we played it for so long uh i pulled a muscle in my forearm because she's just going up and down on the analog stick like takes out of you after a while you know it's tough you know what it's a tough one well no wonder your virtual house is so dirty great
[00:46:41] um no i like it i do like it it does kind of yeah it makes sense which is a good thing for this topic i can i can picture the game yeah and i like the idea of being like like retrospectively nostalgic even though the tech would have been further along when the movie came out but fuck it for my version of this it works well no but like d d mastering stuff
[00:47:08] is in vogue right like there's a lot of games that come out now that look like they were from 20 odd years ago so i think it's still doable yeah with you yeah so if you're listening to this tarantino give us the rights to make a video game in inglorious bastards and we won't do anything because we don't know how to make video games we will find give us the rights and the cash and we'll find someone to do it for you and we'll give you 20 of the profits exactly 20 and you can come
[00:47:35] on the podcast so this is another choice which is inspired by a playstation 2 era team-up game do you remember marvel ultimate alliance i do yes so i played a lot of that back in the heyday of couch co-op games uh because that was basically the only choice of playing multiplayer games marvel ultimate
[00:48:01] alliance was uh similar to what we said there so it's kind of top down uh it's four players you each pick a marvel superhero and you go through room after room beating the shit out of people um to a very very over-the-top comic book story uh i used to go to a friend of mine's uh house so dane where
[00:48:23] we would just play this for basically days at a time we would all have our set go-to character can't remember who mine was but there was always like 30 or 40 to choose from and fuck me those were good days do you remember man like so it's it's some holidays at the moment right during a six weeks used to feel
[00:48:46] like forever as a yeah this isn't helping our thing of not sounding like those guys i don't care this is where we are in our lives in let's be true to ourselves but also yeah you could just basically play a video game for four days straight and eat like rustic microwave burgers and everything was
[00:49:10] fine yeah but but great i don't have kids and i have no sense of my own well-being i do that anyway okay well i'm feeling nostalgic for it yeah you're feeling nostalgic and you're training for a marathon yeah there is that i'm sorry i have even less time yeah even even less time unless it's a handheld or voice activated game you might be able to play on your phone just running running holding the switch
[00:49:39] yeah that's that's ending up in someone being either me running someone over because i'm not looking or me just being run over which is probably more like yeah um what what were your what are your like go-to what are the couch multiplayer games you kind of remember because we played a lot of this growing up a lot of time splitters uh gears of war was another big one yeah halo um it's a mario kart for sure
[00:50:08] yep lots of pro evolution soccer um pro evolution soccer at the point as well where you there was there used to be like a ps2 memory card that we passed around the year that had the official badges and names and everything updated on it that someone's cousin had gone from the internet yeah mario party for a bit that's good fun yes um army of two i don't know if you ever played that
[00:50:35] that was good fun on the x360 um and then um actually the aforementioned uh star wars games are some of sorry star wars lego game or lego star wars games and other lego games are very good like two-player co-op games yeah no that's a great shout yeah ah so ultimate alliance realize i haven't said what my choice is yet so marvel ultimate alliance i loved loved those type of games and i was talking
[00:51:05] about this subject to my wife and she mentioned oh there's a lot of like superhero movie games out there and i suddenly realized what would be the perfect like marvel ultimate alliance style game yeah which is mystery men so the 1999 cult comedy classic which was so far ahead of its time both in
[00:51:28] featuring all star by smash mouth but also basically being a spot-on parody of superhero movies before that was a thing yeah you've done something i don't think you either of us has done in a while and you've picked three movies i have not seen really yeah yeah i know one of them i hadn't but i i i'm now just getting flashbacks to us talking about mystery men before which if anything makes this even better
[00:51:52] because i have to sell you sell you on this on the game yeah so mystery men your core team you'd have mr furious whose power is uncontrollable rage so the angrier he gets the stronger he gets probably uh you've got the shoveler who is like a melee expert who fights with shovels and trowels yeah
[00:52:16] uh the blue rajah who throws cutlery um the bowler who has her uh wields a bowling ball that's got her dead dad's skull in um that kind of controls the ball so it can kind of fly around uh you've got the invisible boy who can turn invisible but only when absolutely nobody is looking at him not even himself
[00:52:39] as soon as even he looks at himself uh he can be seen again uh you've got the spleen uh who weaponizes farts and you've got the sphinx who's just very mystical uh mystical um and can cut guns in half with his mind um and there's like that would kind of be your core group but then like mystery men's got so many there's a scene in it where they're recruiting new superheroes and it is just like snapshot after
[00:53:08] snapshot of very weird superheroes such as the waffler and pencil head and son of pencil head uh there's ballerina man pms avenger squeegee man you could even go back into kind of like uh captain captain amazing is like the go-to big superhero in the city but he's sponsored by things like pepsi and
[00:53:30] texaco and things like that and it's just so it's kind of like what i said with um the yakuza game being like a parody of jrpgs mystery men can be a very like serious ish game but also a complete parody of the superhero game and again full couch co-op you each pick a character and you're just battling henchmen as you're moving through various areas of the city to try and face down with the
[00:53:59] incredibly named villain casanova frankenstein nice i think as well there's a way i appreciate your your nostalgia lean here because this is very much an episode where we are living in the past um but you could also bring this up to date with like the um hero team shoot like an overwatch style uh game as well um which could be fun overwatch is great i don't know if you've played
[00:54:29] much overwatch but overwatch is great really good overwatch is one of those games where i have made the conscious decision not to get into it because i think i would get into it too much so i'm assuming then you also haven't played marvel rivals which is basically overwatch with marvel characters correct yeah um that's great as well to be fair but yeah yeah it's i just i'm either shit at them either you don't play them regularly enough so you're shit at them and you just get
[00:54:55] like your controller handed to you by a fucking yeah by someone sitting there fucking gtse's yeah and that's more of a thing jared leto's into um because that news story that entirely unsurprising news story came out today yeah careless surprise yeah you play long enough that you realize you're the one beating people who are sitting their gcse's um yeah and that also in its way is not a fun
[00:55:22] realization but that is a good shout is it a character shooter i think it's the style of a game hero according to wikipedia hero team team based hero shooter hero shooter okay so yeah a hero shooter would also really work with this because the whole point is you've got this roster of superhero characters um and i want it to be a fun co-op game and it'll it's i'm really again because it was out
[00:55:52] at the wrong time this is the opposite of my previous choice where if this came out 10 years later i think this would have been dlc or a game in its own right or someone would have done something with it but if people haven't watched mystery men i strongly recommend it it is so much fun and again weirdly it's aged really well because it is so on the nose with all of this superhero stuff yeah
[00:56:20] there's also a rumor that it was secretly directed by tim burton which is a conspiracy theory i would like i don't think it's true unfortunately but i would very much like it to be i feel like he is stylized enough that it would like you could pick that out no yes watch mystery men graham and tell me if you think tim burton play uh actually regards to that um i'm trying to see if it's available
[00:56:46] it's not i i um i own it i have it in a case of dvds along with a lot of other films that i have just rented because i couldn't be bothered to get the dvds out and put them into the playstation because that's the world we live in now i am nice bring it on friday if i remember if i remember my final choice is very much dictated by the genre of video game and this is a style of video game
[00:57:14] that was one of my favorites um growing up there are few and far between it sounds like you're like it sounds like you're scraping up a line of coke on your desk what do you think i'm doing whatever gets you whatever gets you through the recording man
[00:57:39] um i know it's uh it's getting late um i genuinely don't know it sounds like you're it sounds like you've got a credit card and you're scraping on the desk uh for some reason i just unfurled a measuring tape okay fair enough yeah as you do all right i'll put it away please continue um you've really thrown me off track um yeah so genre of video
[00:58:05] game that i really loved and i think there's a few i i don't think we've had any great ones in probably about and again back to sounding old probably in about 20 years um but it's your classic point and click adventure so your monkey islands your broken swords your mists particularly like i think monkey i really like i've got a soft spot for broken sword because i think they were great
[00:58:33] um but monkey islands probably the they're probably the best examples of these games is broken sword the one with notoriously weird puzzle about a goat yeah my god i got stuck on that for a long time you basically have to yeah oh yeah really not i i i i'm not too proud to admit that after probably trying to do it for about five hours i read up a um on a on a guide which was
[00:59:00] do you remember when guides used to be like full-on txt files on the internet and the logo would be made out of like slashes and um yes yes yes yeah that's that's the kind of guide i read i read it up on but yeah just those games and then i'm thinking okay well what would what movie could translate well to this
[00:59:23] and again i want to go back i kind of want that that era of like monkey island graphics that are you know like 32 bit ish um and i just thought seven would be really fun i like how i knew what your final choice was but that's still insanity yeah but do you know what i
[00:59:46] mean like you know you just discover the like the guy in the in the bathtub and like all the the the strap on with the with the knife on it and everything yeah do you want to click on the air fresheners precisely you've picked up a crazily written journal and then it'd be like you know because you have to like pick what you're going to ask them and then it's like what do you ask
[01:00:10] what's happened there or do you ask what's in the box um yeah i don't know just for some reason this was the first one that came to my head when we mentioned this um mentioned this idea for the podcast and it was like i immediately went to point and click adventure and they're always like down that kind of detective even though like guy brush three wood is a pirate he's not just he's still
[01:00:37] solving something right it's always about solving something um yeah and i just think that kind of juxtaposed with with uh the the horrendous um severity of the crimes committed in seven um would just be would be great really would you still do it as a cartoon yeah yeah it would be it
[01:00:59] would be like that that that style like yeah as far as 32 bits get you that that's incredible i would love to it would be fucking nuts yeah but i would love to hear it that that's yeah i i i i like this more than i should um what i like a lot is i thought you were going to base this off of a detective series
[01:01:26] um which i don't want to say the name of because we have clarified on more than one occasion on this podcast that i can't say that particular word was it was it uh a series uh you mean series you mean game maybe it was set out somewhere on the west coast of the united states yes i think it was i
[01:01:46] think it was la yes um and it was done in the style of like an old like 50s detective kind of uh genre but i can't i think it was called la detective like genre yeah or and to say it like ian noir noir uh yeah i i assumed that's what this was going to be um but i i do like with our choices have
[01:02:15] actually lined up really well because my final choice is also one where i decided the type of game i wanted yeah and then had to pick it and then had to pick a film uh that fit it so we weirdly we've gone for three quite similar themes yeah yeah i mean yeah it's not that weird is it
[01:02:37] i tech you sent me something the other day that you're a fact a fun fact your dad sent you which i assume apropos of nothing as your dad tends to to which i replied to you and i'm not going to give any contacts context can animals with cloacas fart and then you sent me a screen actually you replied to me for fuck's sake and then sent me a screenshot of you basically saying word for word that to your
[01:03:05] dad um a minute before i replied to you yeah so um i'll give a little bit of context but then offer no context on top of that out of nowhere my dad messaged me uh a screenshot of him asking google if seagulls can fart so point and click games yeah um i so i i think that the only ones i can think of are kind of what telltale did and that definitely took it in like a different direction because these
[01:03:30] ones like you would you would need pointlessly difficult puzzles in this game right you would need that you would also need the ones where you either had to do something to make this happen or it just would happen anyway like a character would for no reason every six seconds move from one one part of the room to the other and that's the bit where you need to do the thing to like i may
[01:03:58] switch the oven off whatever it might be but yeah there's a lot of lateral thinking there's a lot of problem solving whereas the tell i couldn't get on board with the telltale games because they just felt like interactive movies to me like it's it didn't feel like you were really doing anything to solve anything or drive the street it was just like oh and now's the bit where you press this to make that him attack this thing like the wolf among us right was the first one i think i think
[01:04:24] walking dead was the first one i think the wolf among us is to follow up uh but say yes same thing and they're also the type of games where it feels like there's a lot of choice but deep down probably not yeah uh but no i like i like this choice a lot graham i like this choice a lot final choice final choice final choice so similar to what graham said i came up with the genre of
[01:04:48] game i wanted and then spent ages trying to pick a game that would suit it one of the reasons i spent ages was the two that sprung to mind immediately have already um inspired games of this genre so this is the cozy game um have you ever played a cozy game graham no can't get involved with them don't
[01:05:10] like them i fucking love them uh when they're good they are very very very good um so you must know why i can't get on board it's the whole like there's too much shit to do yes like let's take stardew valley as an example there's too much like assume in theory you could fuck all of the other stardew valley people but you'd have to focus in on each of them and build the relationships and blah blah like
[01:05:38] i my brain does not let me play something where i can't complete 100 of it and the idea of and also like just the repetition of shit as well i hate i hate repetitive stuff so yeah not for me unfortunately but do go on no i get it anyway on our 173rd episode coming up with top three lists
[01:06:02] um so cozy but they're different the lists are always different that is that it's not like i'm going and watering some virtual carrots every fucking morning before bob comes around and tries to try it on with me no that's the the name the name bob makes that so much better i'm just going to water my carrots i'm going to try and fuck bob uh and then i need to uh go and make sure my greenhouse
[01:06:32] is clean um yeah so like uh dave the diver is a brilliant one where you uh you catch fish during the day in what's like uh side scrolling spearfishing game and then you have to serve uh sushi in your restaurant that evening it has a crossover with godzilla because of course it does is there any point where you're murdering the fish to create the sushi yeah you you have to just taken out of it
[01:06:58] i mean you're shooting the fish with your spear gun yeah but like but you know getting the scales off ripping into them so you hire you gutting them you hire uh uh you hire somebody to do that for you but there's no pussyfooting around it you're eating the fish you catch it yeah very fun game um so my first thought was spirited away um turns out there is already a game inspired by that it's not directly
[01:07:23] licensed but it's close enough that i felt like i couldn't pick it uh another one were then i thought okay what about kiki's delivery service turns out there's already a game inspired by a witch delivering things so i couldn't do that either do you remember paperboy on the snes that was yes good game like so such but it's also one of those ones where i played it so young there is a chance i never finished the
[01:07:49] first level yeah probably not were there even levels or did you just go as far as you could i think there were levels because i think it was like you had to hit a certain amount of deliveries to progress to the next one and it was really hard because you like you got the most points if you managed to get into the letterbox or then a few less points if it landed on the doorstep and then like nothing and then also the dog chased you and simple times ah classic um so i finally settled
[01:08:16] on the film i want a cozy game of and that is the incredibly nice the best exotic marigold hotel the third of three films that graham hasn't watched and should pledge himself to one of the weirdest triple bills i could think of um so the best exotic marigold hotel sale like the cast list is insane
[01:08:44] so it's judy dench maggie smith bill naĂŻe tom wilkinson dev patel uh amelda staunton no celia imri sorry is in it and like it's about uh loads of old people who moved to a rundown hotel in uh jaipur in india and it's it's just nice it's that we talked about it on our live show with fishermen's friends it's just one of those films that's just nice and that's okay um it's about
[01:09:12] people uh coming to terms with life and just loving to learning to love stuff and that's great and dev patel's in it and i love that man um so this game it it lines itself up with a cozy game because you would just be managing a hotel while kind of meeting the people who live there and helping them with their lives that's it that reeks of cozy game material there's cycles you could go
[01:09:38] for it you could have uh yeah there's the business management side of things you could sort out the food you could sort out the rooms you could sort out who's staying where you can invite guests in turn guests away like it just becomes uh because i like simulators graham we've already talked about that um this just becomes like a hotel sim city is it a hotel or is it a hotel stardew valley well i guess it's more hotel stardew valley actually um marigold bob will try and fuck you
[01:10:07] yeah bob will try and fuck you but in this game bob is an 80 year old um to be fair to be like a pianist or something i assumed bob was an 80 year old in the in my retelling of uh stardew valley earlier so oh well good to know good to know you should invite him to the best exotic marigold hotel yeah but yeah like similar to everything we've said like it's not necessarily going to follow the plot of the film um obviously all kind of reference bits of it but you're just playing the manager of the
[01:10:33] hotel helping these old people move in and you know get the most out of life and shit and that's that i think what is what a cozy game is about it's low stakes it's you you can have a really nice like quaint art style to it as well it doesn't have to be uh kind of really over the top and it just yeah like kind of your stardew valleys your animal crossings yeah not well i guess yeah they're just
[01:11:03] they're just nice games graham they're just nice games just hate them there's um my wife played a game called uh unpacking right which you can kind of have a bit element of this in unpacking is literally just you follow uh this woman through her entire life moving into a series of places so starts
[01:11:27] off in a childhood bedroom and you unpack the stuff in her bag and put it in the room and each level from what she's got and her belongings you start learning about her life and what's happened and what's changing and stuff like that and it is one of the most i think unique storytelling mechanisms i've ever seen in a game um but you could do similar with the hotel rooms of learning who's in them by helping them like unpack their stuff and kind of things never stay in your hotel you're unpacking
[01:11:56] my shit hey i mean like you know fancy hotels do that for you graham and this hotel is the best and is exotic yeah i know this game isn't for you but there are people who would lap this up and i think we can make our first million from it yeah stardew was made by one guy yeah no i'm well aware i just i don't have the capacity to understand why hotel management and then at the end of the game
[01:12:24] graham you power wash it i'm gonna power wash you yeah but so um my choice came down to this or chef but i think this fits the fold uh a little bit better uh and again i know this is a film aimed at kind of 50 year plus women uh but fuck me i love it um the again not doing much for the uh we're old
[01:12:48] uh piece um the uh i when you mentioned chef i originally had in my head that like an overcooked style uh chef which could have been fun love it yeah overcooked is a horrifying game uh again play plays it a bit uh first like hour two hours maybe really nice it's just like oh yeah you get the
[01:13:14] pasta i'll cut the tomatoes blah blah blah blah and then suddenly you're on an airship that is split across two hot air balloons that are crashing into a river and it's just like this isn't fun anymore this is really difficult i i can imagine many relationships ended playing co-op oh god yeah overcooked yeah it'll be on divorce papers somewhere yeah speaking of um speaking of
[01:13:41] shows about cooking getting shit towards the end i did not like season five of bear gonna throw it out there i haven't watched it i haven't watched it yet um i will but yeah haven't got around to it but you did message me that so i will one element of i i liked one element of it is so fucking stupid that it just ruined the whole thing for me is it suddenly a musical no but i'd have preferred that interesting
[01:14:11] interesting speaking of musicals we've got something fun planned coming up which i'm not going to share with people till it's in the can um we will we will graham we will circle back we will circle back but those were our choices they were but before we figure out the official the podcast top three movies that should have a video game it's time to figure out the top three of our threes so out of your choices graham what is the top three of your three what is the top three of your three
[01:14:43] three two so i think in last place um i think i'll go i think i'll go bastards last place only because i think top gun maverick is like basically as we said about the edge tomorrow tom
[01:15:10] cruise films like it kind of is a video game anyway it just needs to be translated into one and then seven at number one because one i love these kind of games and two i think having seven as this type of game would just be like chef's kiss yeah it is definitely a game i want to see as soon as this is done i will be ai generating an image of it and sending it to you
[01:15:37] i like it um so out of my choices uh this this is one of the the harder top three lists i think we've had to put together um because i think i could do any combination of this and be relatively happy um i at three i'm going to go mystery man at two i'm going to go edge of tomorrow because it's basically already a video game at number one i'm going the best exotic marigold hotel because it's
[01:16:05] 100 a cozy game i think a lot of people would spend quite literally hundreds of hours playing official top threes then what we feeling i'm just gonna let out here now there is no world but i'm putting a cozy game in here really yeah i don't think they should be classed as video games i think they should be out of everything out of everything that we have said that is what makes you sound oldest
[01:16:31] i'm fine with it video games should be about suffering like seven and in glorious past precisely i'm glad we're on the same page yeah okay all right fair fair enough i guess um i mean fuck you um edge of tomorrow 100 already a video game yeah i'm down with that i'm fine yeah bring it on a sleopy shooter so we'll go for that we'll go for seven with your point and click
[01:16:58] uh so then it is couch co-op or fun flying game yeah i mean purely fun fun flying game for me just because i can't remember the last time i played one but i also can't remember the last time i played like a couch co-op superhero beat-em-up game well i do it was marvel ultimate alliance yeah but i feel
[01:17:18] like i feel like we've got a lot of superhero games out there um also like let's let's put it this way as well if there was a couch co-op game today bearing in mind how difficult it is to get together in front of a tv like it just feels like you wouldn't get to experience that couch co-op thing again do you know
[01:17:47] what i mean like it i don't know it feels like you're chasing something that you might struggle to um to get like when you were doing the your cocaine earlier um okay so cozy games aren't real games and you'd rather fly planes by yourself that's what you said no because you could do we could fly them together we would just be online well we could do mystery med online doesn't have to just be a couch co-op and let's be real great let's be real here graham i'm seeing you on friday
[01:18:18] and i was i was at your house last friday yeah fair enough but we are a unique situation as many people have told us that is that is true that is true uh a friend of ours today described us the most married unmarried people he knows yeah and also yeah it is it is fair and all right i'll go on no carry on because i thought you're about the cave so i don't want to cave first i thought you're about scaven so i don't want to cave first
[01:18:50] who's caving this is a real mexican standoff isn't it um i will i will given we've got one cruise in there i will submit to mystery man um however as a special feature in the uh edge of tomorrow game you should be able to unlock a top gun maverick
[01:19:19] mission i think that's entirely fair i think i think uh we could start it because it starts with like you're going down from a drop ship okay so you could definitely have a flying pilot bit at the beginning and maybe a top gun maverick skin you know yeah why not because that's the thing that people pay like eight quid for now exactly exactly um cool and uh tom waits is in mystery men so we'll get a decent um video game soundtrack as well which is always important
[01:19:47] so the official the podcast only articles top three movies that should have a video game at number three we have mystery men uh i've already decided what's number one by the way it is seven thanks um so number three we have mystery men number two we have edge of tomorrow and number one we have the point and click adventure of seven if you agree with our choices uh if you want to recommend graham any cozy video games to play you can find us on instagram at the podcast
[01:20:16] nobody asked for uh we're on friends we're on blue sky uh we've also got a website uh the podcast uh patreon um as ian mentioned we've got some cool stuff coming out which may or may not hit patreon who knows where we'll put it but if we do put it there you're going to want to listen to it so give us a bit of money and also as mentioned previously if at least one of you signs up between
[01:20:40] now and our next recording ian's going to do the um emily blunt plank um and we all want to see that yeah i can't just to be stressed i will attempt yeah yeah repeatedly repeatedly i'll give it the old college try yeah um second time you said that oh nice um uh and wherever you're listening to this leave us a review an in your review put any future episode ideas you may have uh we're also doing a
[01:21:08] live show we are october uh october 18th uh so come down to uh the bedford in balham and watch us uh crack out a top three list live yeah we've got some good ideas i'm hoping i'm i'm really hoping for one of them to come through i think we're going to put it out to vote if it does go to vote i will campaign excessively for one specific one although it does also weirdly involve getting ian's dad's
[01:21:36] consent yeah i'm contemplating just doing that regardless of the choice we have okay like that element of it okay fair yeah but we will again we're we'll fill people in on the details later uh so that was video games uh right yeah um something something something player two power wash
