Thots TV Nominated for International Women's Podcast Awards

British children's TV nostalgia podcast earns Comedy Gold recognition

Popular British podcast Thots TV has been nominated for a prestigious International Women's Podcast Award, earning a place in the highly competitive "Moment of Comedy Gold" category for 2025.

The nomination recognises the podcast's unique blend of humour and nostalgia as hosts dive deep into British children's television, exploring everything from puppet cacti to deadly gameshows in what they describe as "a nostalgic trip to an era in which Barney Harwood was King."

Thots TV joins nine other nominees in the Comedy Gold category, competing against established shows including The Guilty Feminist and Single Ladies In Your Area. The nomination places the podcast amongst the finest comedic audio content created by women worldwide, and represents recognition of their distinctive approach to comedy podcasting, transforming childhood television memories into engaging adult entertainment. The show's format of deep-diving into forgotten British children's programmes has clearly resonated with both audiences and industry professionals.

The podcast continues to explore the golden age of British children's television, uncovering forgotten gems and examining shows that shaped a generation's viewing habits. Their comedic take on nostalgia has evidently struck a chord in an increasingly crowded podcast landscape.

The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 17th June at the BBC Radio Theatre in London, with a global livestream available for remote attendees. The judging panel, which includes audio and podcasting professionals from around the world, noted the exceptional range and quality of this year's submissions.

Winners will be announced at the ceremony in June, with tickets available through the IWPA website for those wishing to attend in person or virtually.

About the IWPA

The International Women's Podcast Awards, now in their fifth year, celebrate exceptional moments of audio brilliance rather than entire shows. The awards "recognise moments of brilliance in podcasting and the women that produce them," championing and celebrating work "both behind the mic and behind the scenes, from podcast hosts and producers, to editors and writers."

Unlike traditional awards that focus on entire shows, the IWPAs spotlight exceptional "moments" of audio brilliance. This approach allows the awards to highlight specific instances of outstanding creativity, storytelling, and production quality that might otherwise be overlooked.

This year's awards attracted entries from a record 35 countries, with submissions arriving from places as diverse as Senegal, Qatar, and the Philippines. The international reach demonstrates that "both podcasting as a medium and the International Women's Podcast Awards continues to grow."

Over a third of this year's entries used the IWPA Bursary Fund, which was launched in 2022 and is supported by BBC Sounds, Amazon Music and Wondery. The fund offers free entry and ticket access to those who may benefit, with organisers noting that improving financial accessibility remains essential for the podcast industry.
