[00:00:14] Hello and welcome to Fandomentals, the podcast that explores pop culture, one conversation at a time. I am your host, Harley. Every episode, I interview different people from around the world to discuss a variety of topics within the world of pop culture. Thanks for joining

[00:00:30] me on this journey and I hope you enjoy the episode. Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Fandomentals podcast. This is part 4 of my on the stage series at the 2000 Trees Festival. If you've been listening to the

[00:00:51] previous episodes of the podcast, you'll know that I was fortunate enough to attend the 2000 Trees Festival and interview a number of fans about their experience on the stage playing at festivals. It really has been a fantastic series I could not be happy with

[00:01:05] the interviews and today's episode is no exception. In today's episode, I'm joined by Will and Andrew from Every Hell, Neath, Thea, Scott and Vinnie from Bowen, Chris, Dara and Mac from Inhuman Nature as well as Jim, Soaf and Brucker from Snake Eyes. Each band was absolutely fantastic.

[00:01:25] I love talking to them and as always, I've been short to leave links in the show notes. We can find out more about each band. As I have mentioned in previous episodes as well,

[00:01:33] I'm also doing a giveaway with Marshall. I'll give you a bit more information about that at the end of the episode. Right, that's enough from me. Let's get on with it. This is on the stage at

[00:01:44] 2000 Trees with every hell Bowen inhuman nature and Snake Eyes. Hello Will and Andrew and welcome to the Founder Mental's podcast. Hi, nice to see you. Yeah, thanks so much. Yeah, likewise and all

[00:02:04] re-see as we've been discussing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was shouting in your face last time with each other, which I apologize for and less you enjoyed it in which case wonderful. Well, it was in the right context.

[00:02:17] You know we'll say that. Yeah, yeah, just in the street or something. Yeah. So guys, so I've been exploring this with every artist that's come on. I want to go right the way back

[00:02:27] and I want to know what was your first festival that you guys went to. Before the band. Yeah, yeah, so just as a punter. I think it was, as I could see in the park or something. Nice.

[00:02:41] We're playing. Okay. Oh my god. Yes. This is the Brighton one. Maybe. That's it. This is so weird. Okay, gone. Okay, so yeah, I think you're, you're the same

[00:02:56] years me. We would be like nine and it was steps. Yeah, oh my god, it's the same one that I went to. That's so weird. True, truly madly deeply into our savage garden at the time. Yes, savage garden

[00:03:10] with playing. People with huge. Be weird. I went backstage. We were nine years old. Yeah, yeah. And I went backstage or met by which. No, and got their autographs. And okay, so this is the same festival that

[00:03:22] I've only just realized that is the first one. So I was going to say it was the festival I went to in I was 12 but no, that. Oh, what was it called? It was, um, it wasn't something pressed in part.

[00:03:32] It was something like that. Yeah, it was a, it was a, it was just a huge free festival. Right. But mainly aimed at kids. Yeah. And Gary Barlow, I think got fireworked off the stage.

[00:03:47] Someone shot firework at Gary Barlow during his performance. Was it him? Was it the Australian guy? What was the Australian guy called? Oh, Jason Donovan maybe Jason Donovan. Another one another one like that. He was like proper

[00:04:01] heartthrob from neighbors. Yeah, at the time. I asked anyone I could think of Jason. Um, there's another one. Yeah. Adam, Adam Rickett was that one. He was the one maybe? Anyway, yeah, he got there. They summoned fire to firework and it literally exploded on the stage.

[00:04:16] I covered the whole thing in smoke. Oh, wow. And they stormed off. I didn't come into the comeback. Oh, that was a hell of a first. Yeah, I saw the first one. Yeah, he said that. Oh, that's the first one.

[00:04:31] It's like, oh yeah, that's the same one for me too. I mean, you're in the same crowd watching the same fire. Yeah, it was a bit like, we threw in each other's lives. Yeah, many, many years later. Yeah.

[00:04:41] Yeah. Yeah. So I want to know then what about performing as an artist? What was the first festival you guys got to play out? Son of sphere was the first one we did together, which is a real honour.

[00:04:51] Like that was amazing. That was really special. Yeah. Yeah, that's the best gigs I've still ever done. I think we had a great time. We opened the festival first band on nothing else happening

[00:05:03] absolutely terrifies. Yeah. Yeah. It's made us play really well. Yeah. I bet. Yeah. That was a big, yeah. Yeah. I think the festival I played before that was probably like I don't know if this counts. I think it was like a recorder festival. Okay.

[00:05:23] A recorder. No, it was 11. Yeah. I did it in the little. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I've been playing win in since I was five. Amazing. So I'm singing since I was five. Yeah. So yeah, there was some festival like Baroque festival in a church. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:05:41] Some sort of, I really need to clean my teeth. It's been two days and I forgot my watch back. Now we're in a festival and you got spurted for a long time. I can't borrow your teeth.

[00:05:52] I think a little, a little, a little shot like a little. They got teeth first. Is that the show might do? I really need to see a lot of supplies there. You might get a lot. Well, we're in the middle of talking

[00:05:59] about this and like you have some things good things bad things are festivals like I really need to clean my teeth. My teeth really just suddenly become really uncomfortable. I put toothpaste on them at

[00:06:09] the Airbnb but for the people who can't see this and listening you look absolutely fine. Oh, yeah, yeah. I feel growing. That's standard fair at a festival. Yeah, I never forget. I forgot my watch back. Yeah. So I have a look with genuinely

[00:06:27] by the entrance. I'm pretty sure they got some stuff they might build it. Yeah, I might. Back to where we were. Yeah, because it's a good for corner concept thing. The times. Yeah, very good times. Yeah. So I want to know what are some of your favorite

[00:06:42] experiences been at playing a festival? I mean opening song is fair. That's a pretty high bar to play here. Yeah, yeah. It was that year was so ridiculous that I knopp as well. Massed on Slayer Metallica. It was all the big four. It's cool. Yeah, yeah.

[00:06:57] And for the big four and throcks. There's the first actual meh too. The Bronx meh too. The Bronx were wicked. And Olympus gear. Whoa. I am maiden. Yeah, Bruce Dickinson did some sky. Yeah, it was a very nice and addictive flu over in this course.

[00:07:16] Fuck off. Yeah, yeah, of course he did. Yeah. So that I think was definitely on the best times. We had. I think other ones we just after Andrew got his left peaks.

[00:07:31] We had lined the cave. And unlike the Friday night or something. Yeah, and that was really cool. Unfortunately, classing without the drive in which wood is not the best programming. Sorry James.

[00:07:50] Yeah, that was that was a really fun show. The one, well, the one I did do, but did play with you, sorry. Yeah, it's 20 17. Yeah. Last time I was here first time I've been back since the end of the year.

[00:08:01] I don't even go outside. That was really special. We just come off of a really long tour and it was like coming home. Everyone was here. It was such a good sign. It was singing along. Yeah, it was really awesome. It felt lovely.

[00:08:18] Although times were a bit stressful for us at that point. It was just such a wonderful show. And everyone was there. Everyone was great. Yeah, that was one of my favorite experiences. I think the vibe was been.

[00:08:30] Yeah, I'm trying to think why are the ones like in our 10 year. We're really great because this is technically every house first. Best of all, get right. Okay. So yeah, so yeah, so first festival. It is.

[00:08:43] Really. Um, because we've best with because we've all been playing in bands together for years. We've been working with Mark. Yeah, it's not producer. He obviously made statues and then did

[00:08:53] we have a single later. And we're so we've been, it's it's felt like we've all known each other forever. You know, I've been playing with Toby now for like four years, three, four years or something as well. So okay.

[00:09:07] Yeah, it's been super easy. It's just fun. Can't wait. Yeah. No, no, wait. I'm good. Good. Good. Good. Good. It's just good. Yeah, it'd be awful or really good. Yeah, it's never in between. Yeah. We'll find out later folks. I'll report back. Don't look at me.

[00:09:23] Usually facing away from the guys anyway. Oh, fair enough. See my now holding patch on the back of my head. It's no lucky. Bring it out. I don't know. Looking good to me if there's any consolation.

[00:09:36] There you go. There you go. Something I've been asking all the artists as well. This is my favorite question. I ask everybody because the answers are always wild. If you had to create your own festival,

[00:09:46] I want to know what would you call the festival and who would your three dream headliners be? You can have anyone you like dead or alive? I've just made a boobie in my head immediately. The first thing

[00:09:55] it came to my head was health-less. Oh, take a note. It's already the best festival in your world. It's got me called every fest. That would suck. Health-lessed UK? This is a really good question. It's funny I've been watching a lot of people and interviews answering this question.

[00:10:18] Oh, I wouldn't choose them and now I can come any closer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, that's cool at every fest because I have no imagination today for some reason. That's fine. Maybe because I'm nervous too. I'm nervous. I'm nervous. I think you go.

[00:10:35] You guys have got this, you guys are a little bit of an infectious. No, no, it's fine. Everyone by the end of the intro. Every fest would get Macedon. I'd best just get that sonnus fair line up.

[00:10:47] Yeah, actually copy and paste that line up. Exactly as it was. That's a good line up. Carnival as well like red fang. Red fang. It was insane. The prodigy. I literally copy and paste that sonnus real-en. Don't you make that fun.

[00:11:05] I'm not that fast about the prodigy. Yeah, yeah, I'd literally copy and paste the 2016. It was 2015. Something like that. 2016, I think. It might have been a bit earlier. 2015, so it's a line up. Just that that be it and then we played somewhere in the middle of the stage.

[00:11:32] Probably. Yeah, yeah. I think the metallic are playing before that. No. Yes, crash them off. You're not the first person to suggest that though. I'm like making metallic a come second bill.

[00:11:41] Yes, give them like a title. If I say it and that's it, they're all. I'd want to have nine inch nails as well. But how them like middle of the day? Secret. Take that trend, Rezner. No lights. Oh no. Yeah. Also Empire State. Yeah. They were amazing.

[00:12:03] No, I'm not this time but I did see them last year and it was my first time experiencing that. I was really special. In a fan of like, yeah, Simon Hills is a few years. Didn't really know what to expect. I went with Mark and watched it. Banshee.

[00:12:15] Yeah, man. It just, it took me a minute. I was like, I feel like I'm seeing something very special. I don't quite know. And then yeah, listen to them all you see. It's absolutely wild. Yeah.

[00:12:27] Yeah, I was great. They would fit in totally. That would be a really good day out. Awesome. That's great. Thank you so much guys. Appreciate the time. Thanks for coming on. Fun. Thanks for the good questions. Cheers.

[00:12:36] All right. Well, get it. Thanks, man. Hello, me, Pierre Scott and really. And welcome to the Fundamentals podcast. This is a first. This is the whole band, yeah? Yeah, the whole band. The whole band wild. Absolutely buck wild, right?

[00:12:51] Well guys, thank you so much for coming on to the podcast. Thank you very much. I was my pleasure genuinely. My very first question to you guys. I want to go back and

[00:12:59] be with your festival going history. I want to know what was the first festival that you guys went to. Wow. That's a good question. I got to think back. Yeah. Long history of life. Yeah, yeah. It's probably something like reddick maybe something like that. Right. Okay, Gucci.

[00:13:23] Turn it. I'm going for something like this. So. Okay. Okay. That's fair enough. That's fair enough. How about yourselves? That's good. My first one was Rook pointy. Rook pointy. Rook pointy. Yeah. Okay. I'm not hurt at all. It's like 207, no 2019. 2019. Right.

[00:13:43] Recent. I like it. And you said that my first was Rook pointy as well. It's the 2019 love list. They bring me the horizon. That was amazing. So good. I'm a bad guy. I'm a bad guy. I'm a bad guy.

[00:13:56] Actually, I've never went to our festival to see you. I've been just to play. The first one was out. I've learned a hundred and ten above. I saw it in a bon farm type of thing. It's real cool. It's very wild and very dusty.

[00:14:14] It's fun. It was fun. It was really good. Was that the first one you guys all played out? Was that your dead if you? About just me as a... Just move on. Oh, okay. I'm not on my own, but... Yeah. Away from the guys.

[00:14:26] Okay. I don't know. Okay. But I'm a bad guy. What's your first festival? As a band? It was first when you got to go to the band. It actually not very long ago. Was camped for jam? Camped for jam? I love Birmingham. Lovely.

[00:14:38] Yeah, it was like a cover. It was trippy thing. So we kind of did like half half covers. Original. It was very interesting. Yeah. It was a big difference. What covers did you guys do? We did hang on telephone. Okay. We did this charming man.

[00:14:50] We did re-ann and by fleet with Mac. We did fruits and fire. We basically did like a little like Steven it's a bit of a Mac. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Rims and fire and go your own way. That sounds like a great set to be fair.

[00:15:00] Do you was interesting? You're not the first band to tell me that they played at couples. They're first. I think it was a love break as I was chatting yesterday and they were saying that was their first one.

[00:15:09] But how did you guys find when you did the original set? Because they said they got a really positive response to the audience. So we honestly think our original was probably more positive than couples. Yeah, it's interesting. It is interesting. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:15:21] Everyone's here for that. But as soon as you start playing the original music it's like, oh hello. Yeah. Yeah. So if you want to just get set against in the vibe. Yeah. Yeah. Great. That's really great.

[00:15:30] This is your first time here at Trees. Yeah. Yeah. It's our first time. Really. Really. And I don't know. Really good. Amazing. Amazing. And kind of asked for a better crowd. You know. Just being on that stage was just phenomenal. You know. Yeah. That's brilliant.

[00:15:44] There's something I've been diving into of every band I've interviewed is the appeal of playing a festival. Right? Because I think a lot people listening if they're not on a band. They can probably understand you have going on a tour, like even touring with

[00:15:55] one of your idols and you have come up stuff. But playing a festival is completely different from a band. Right? So I've been asking everybody what they love about playing festival specifically and what draws you guys to play something like 2000 trees for example.

[00:16:09] I think that energy is kind of just different. Right. Okay. It's just like we all be still quite a fresh new band coming. But I think the energy is just a bit different. Because it's like when we go play in our venues in London.

[00:16:22] Yeah. So people come here for the night. First hear something every once like they've been here and it's like they're still like the energy every day is just more and more, you know? And obviously you've got so many other bands that you look up to playing.

[00:16:35] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know. So it's kind of like seeing that That's all right. We're on the same line up as them. It's just amazing. Every brave to go and talk to anybody. Have a good chat. We've got to get it. Yeah. Nice nice. That was good.

[00:16:49] Yeah. So nice to see that like people want to see new bands as well. Yeah. Totally. Yeah. There's definitely a good scene for that. Yeah. How about yourselves? Yeah. I mean honestly like being because I've been to

[00:17:00] like loads of festivals just to see bands. It's just the whole vibe. The energy everyone's so lovely and happy. You know, it was so a lot of people saying that was interesting to see

[00:17:08] the new bands that got heard before. So great place to discover new music. You know, for you liked before. It's just a good vibe around, you know? Definitely. Yeah. How about yourself, buddy? Yeah. You can definitely gauge the crowd a lot more than compared to

[00:17:22] say a venue in London, you know? Yeah. The tenderness band of everyone is like, a lot of love. You could be honest, it's fine. Yeah. It's all right. Anyways, um, yeah. For yeah, during a festival it's like everyone wants to listen to some someone

[00:17:37] who ever maybe on stage. I'm their next favorite band. Exactly. It's only. It's only. It's us. It's us. Yeah. It could be you say that you never know. You never know. That was a beauty. I think the festival is absolutely discovery and you music. It's absolutely brilliant.

[00:17:53] So I want to know as well what have been some of your favorite experiences or some of your fondness memories of playing festival? Are you a fairly new band and you've been doing a couple

[00:18:00] of it? It's anything that sticks out to you. It's still around, but I just love being together. You get always interesting because it's like every festival we played together there's a different vibe and it's very like we've had some really good reactions and obviously that's nice

[00:18:18] to know as a new band. Yes. It's very positive and very like, like motivating for us as well to see that and to have that reaction. So yeah, I think but then again it's just also like playing

[00:18:32] as a band together. The vibe to is good for that and stage music. And if you win one more moment of the next episode. The best thing. Yeah. Nice. No, I like it. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:18:42] So any sort of standouts and few guys or anything you look back up and go, that was an amazing experience today. I mean you guys, you might not be really buzzing from there. Yeah.

[00:18:51] Yeah. I want to come down from the wall and then gentle. It's been show honestly. Yeah. Yeah. Hmm. Hey, is anyone else you want to go and see here today? Anything you're looking forward to? I'm really excited for Dumbo Roan. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:19:02] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We've actually just been covering to Chef Tho opening for them that I've really been well-funded. Well, very, I'm not really going to do this well. I'm so happy. Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. That's really cool. Yeah. They are just absolutely phenomenal.

[00:19:16] Yeah. They are amazing. Nice. What a great response. You can see them being up to the wall because they're like, wow. Yeah. I bet. So I was just for the two nights was it? It's too nice. Yeah. Yeah. So that's a great experience. Yeah. Awesome. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:19:29] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You have to try and get me in. We'll try. Sorry, Jericho. No, really. But no, genuinely. That's really awesome. Something I've been asking every button as well. This is my favorite question because it gets

[00:19:39] wild answers. But if you were to organize your very own festival, I want to know what would you call the festival? And who would your three dream headlines being of anyone you like that are on the roof? Oh, nice. Yeah. So top one.

[00:19:53] Both best. Oh, best. It does look a good ring to it. I like it. Short for Bowen. Yeah. Just a bit. Obviously. Us of the head nine at one at one. Oh yeah. This is it. Right.

[00:20:03] Every band is a given. You're getting your own head like a slot. It's just a little bit of the day. Okay. So ideally in my head it would be Fleet or Mang. I know they're getting back together. Yeah. Yeah. I'm planning this festival. Uh-huh. More see we'll eventually

[00:20:18] want to play the Smiths again and they will have like as well. That's yeah. David Bowie will rise. We'll play. We'll do some sort of ritual. Yeah. We'll make some potions and then that's on the right top three. How about yourself here? Oh. Honestly, probably all

[00:20:38] okay. Yeah. I love them. Yeah. That's all I can think of right now of my head. Oh, that's okay. And the Smiths. I love the Smiths. Smiths. Yeah. We got some common answers. I like it. I mean,

[00:20:50] there was I won on around now. Well, that's the thing. That's why I say dead that are alive. This is a dream festival. Wherever you like. Absolutely. Never enough. No, but yes. You had a varnish.

[00:21:00] You can have it as well. Yeah. Yeah. The varno would definitely be up there. Obviously Dom Brober definitely sure. Yeah. I don't know who else. I can't really think. Food fires. Taylor Hawkins. Yeah. Yeah. That would have been brilliant. RIP Taylor Hawkins definitely. But yeah,

[00:21:19] those would be like, why for you definitely 100%. That's a yeah. Oh, even. Oh, it was an great so far. Yeah. Go. Always you've had, you've had me out. Yeah. Food fires. I'm nice.

[00:21:29] I'd love to have the pumpkins come through. Yes. Yes. That did that be a cool vibe. Yeah. For a third one. I'm not too sure. I know. I know it's tricky. It's like, it's like,

[00:21:40] I'm asking this question about the bands because it's always hard. It's like trying to narrow at 9-3. Yeah. Sarah Bowen, Tribby Bant. Maybe later. Maybe it's you never know. You never know.

[00:21:54] That's genuinely the first answer I've had like that. I mean, I loved that. That would be so cool. Yeah. Yeah. Right here in ourselves. Yeah. There we go. Yeah. Get it twice. Also, fair pay for Bowie. That's

[00:22:04] the first Bowie I've had this week. Yeah. So I like it. I like it. Awesome. Guys, thank you so much for coming on the podcast. Really appreciate it. Thank you so much. I'm not sure. Cheers. Hello Chris, Darra and Mac and welcome to the Fandimental's podcast.

[00:22:20] Thank you, I'm a nice thank you, guys. So first thing I've been asking every artist is I want to go right back to the start of the festivals. I want to know what was the first festival that

[00:22:30] you guys went to. My first one was Osfest. I don't want to be in Spoll. I can't mean, I'm guessing it was 2000-3. Right. We were talking about in the bat. Yeah, every day. So original cyber flying up, slipknot when the first album dropped Popper Roach, first album,

[00:22:50] sold fly, like second album era, amen. I mean, disturbed first album, you know. It was cool at the time. That is some heavy. I guess. Bodfane. Yeah, it was it. Yeah. I was I at 13 and I think when I went to that.

[00:23:03] That was my first festival experience. Trying to think. I think it was download. Download. Yeah, that's come up a few times. I love Lee. Do you remember who was headline in? Metallica. Metallica. Nice. I just went for the day. Yeah, yeah. I really want to watch it.

[00:23:21] Yeah, it was Metallica. I want to say I lived in the Middle East when I was a kid. So my first festival was Dubai Desert Rock with Iron Maiden and Inquibus. They were the highlights of

[00:23:35] my 16 year old. 16 year old self phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. And how about as an artist then? What was the first festival do you guys got to play at? Let's just as individuals or as in human nature.

[00:23:50] But you the role? Yeah, what your experiences have been. So we've been human the first festival we ever did in human nature was returned to strength and festive Germany but these two large blood in the band then. The one that we will

[00:24:04] play together as this year was Bloodstock. That was awesome. All that size. Yeah, he also playing on the day. I think that was who I played it. Yeah, yeah. My name is God. I mean,

[00:24:15] yes, yes. Yeah. First full-fate. Yeah, the machine had to do the secret set there I think. Yeah, that's a great first experience. I feel like because machine head came on to bands after us we can officially be like yeah we played with them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

[00:24:30] yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. First full-fate is a bit of a stretch. You absolutely can claim it. I love it. So something I've been getting into with every artist

[00:24:40] I speak to is what are the reasons why they like to play it festivals, right? Because I think a lot of people listening even if you're not in a band they get the idea of playing your own shows.

[00:24:49] Maybe even touring with a band that you like but festivals are whole other beast for bands. So I want to know what it is that you guys enjoy about festivals and coming to festivals and playing them.

[00:25:00] What do you like about, man? It's just a five-man like yeah. You see lots of familiar people Yeah, seeing on the road and stuff you know. It's nice that when we came off stay

[00:25:12] and well before and after we came off like grocery for all their, like a bunch of friends for a long time we're going to talk with them. So in that side of it it's really nice

[00:25:22] we were talking about this earlier and especially doing a festival like two thousand trees which isn't necessarily like a little bit of an odd one out. I suppose it's like yeah we still play two fairly four ten as well and it's just like a nice opportunity to

[00:25:37] play some new people as well and I feel really cool as well and yeah and like Matt said you know the vibe is cool. Yeah it's genuinely something really special here like everyone I've spoken to

[00:25:46] feels the same way on and off the stage it's like there's a really lovely community feeling here and yeah whatever genre you guys are in I've spoken to a few hardcore bands and do indie bands

[00:25:55] and country artists and it's like it's everyone's completely different but it all just comes together yeah when we first got off with this I was like yeah and then it made more sense like

[00:26:05] I've seen like more hardcore bands and stuff on the build. Yeah it's almost like in timid day in a little bit especially if you it's amazing to be artists obviously yeah when we

[00:26:14] got the off-risers I see but yeah you're kind of like you're like oh how are we going to go down that? It means like a fresh festival I'd be like yeah sweet like there's no there's no problem there

[00:26:25] it's probably going to be cool but yeah when it is no different it's a little bit challenging but I've been as a nice fit as well because you have to like come out strong and and do

[00:26:34] you're feeling and there is that little bit of like anticipation for how it's going to go with you and as nice as well you know. When you play as much gigs as we do it can all

[00:26:47] not blur into one but you know there is there is a similarity whereas when you play a festival like Max said it's the vibe it does feel like it's own separate self-contained thing you know

[00:26:57] as opposed to just rock up to another venue to play with a couple of bands. Sure sure. It does feel like much more of a I don't know not in Denver but in a bit of a positive way you know yeah like

[00:27:09] these guys played like in a school gymnasium in Germany you know like in a very strange local two-day festival and that was yeah I was just along for the ride on that day and that was like an

[00:27:22] experience unto itself yeah yeah I bet actually he's beyond to another question I've asked is like what have been some of your favorite experiences of playing a festivals? I mean that sounds

[00:27:32] like quite an interesting one to start. You know I mean now the dollar has mentioned the school gymnasium that was really funny was that yeah just a fest in Germany that I arranged the tour around and yeah it

[00:27:46] was just in a school where people were camping there and the jams were in like the showers. I was going to ask yeah yeah it was like yeah the changing rooms with the green rooms and

[00:27:57] stuff like that and that was really that was just a really fun day and everyone there was super cool I mean they've all been good all the festivals have done have been cool at damnation last year

[00:28:06] was amazing that was great and and it's self is like you know it's an indoor festival it's you know like Dara said you know it's in endeavor it's kind of like an adventure

[00:28:19] as well I'm sure if we play the same fest game we'll get used to it but when you know I'm never been to 2000 trees so it's like even driving in you're like oh wow it's super beautiful

[00:28:28] around here and then it's festival going on in between it you know it's super nice but yeah I mean yeah even just being here is really cool be it like the little fest as well I really

[00:28:38] love I've got a lot of time for that like the kind of de-a-modi why yeah culture but when we played bloodstock that was awesome yeah yeah that was like a heat wave and August and even

[00:28:49] I hate going from New Orleans came off stage sweating and they were like what the f*** is this weather I've built you know built festivals and sports stage crew and stuff like so to be honest

[00:29:02] okay I'm not saying it is a much prefer that what's your favorite one Mac well I'm first of all favorite festival experience probably the buzzdog man yeah yeah I've often

[00:29:13] I've often the way up yeah yeah it was it was probably stands up makes it was my like first proper like festival yeah yeah yeah yeah I think what experience the biggest one I've ever

[00:29:25] done I've been in a few in a few bands over the years as we all have but yeah I've been out was like I was like they're most hit fall yeah it was people in the crowd that you recognize

[00:29:34] but there was a lot of like new people there as well and everyone was really into it and yeah it felt really good it was you know it could have gone either way it was like very early sports yeah yeah

[00:29:43] yeah you know you don't know who's because I'm you know we all go to festivals and you want to line your tent hung over all day you don't want to rush to see the band it was

[00:29:50] but it was packed it was really so I mean like despite the weather being like really hot there was like a mosh bit like for out the whole thing yeah like people are circle being

[00:29:59] dead again so it was great that is dead again you shoot I tell you my favorite things today a couple of favorite things obviously because we've just talked about another festival whilst it's been doing different festivals it's cool go in a banana suit mosh in circle

[00:30:12] being today that was fun I signed a suit I signed a suit I wrote my wrote the he was a lovely banana and I met a girl who over a young a young child a guest a young person yeah at the

[00:30:26] front I think it was their first festival and they said I want to say loved it and that's amazing as well you know like again being been something like one of the first bands I'm seen and yeah

[00:30:37] really lovely really cool that meant a lot to me so they actually I would say we're not supposed to swear on this right yeah sorry that was my last time I've had it in like the first I have

[00:30:46] this one I had to drop like for in a row and I was just like okay that's gonna be fun dead it later no it's all good don't worry yeah my final question you guys and I've been asking everybody

[00:30:55] this he answers have been wild and I love it if you had to come up with your own festival I want to know what would it be called and who would your three dream headlines being gonna have anyone

[00:31:05] you're like dead or alive it's a tough one from musician three dream headlines it's a mine would be it's probably um yes yeah be rushed kiss I'm stuck between creed and sit like Neil Young

[00:31:24] or something like that yeah it would be rice well we'll we'll summon Neil Perk back from the dead we'll have brush head line in absolutely kiss kiss get to head line too much

[00:31:34] like you know they can they can be second sure they need taken down a pair and then maybe maybe like Neil Young kind of plays like an upper ten no yeah he's guys own ten to chill out in

[00:31:44] at that I'd probably do it for me I'd say good yeah Alison chains headline all three days yeah I would have a festival called stench stock and it would be nothing but like all UK stench core and crust bring back anti-sects early 80s era

[00:32:10] would have to play yeah uh probably get a me big son there that would be lovely that would be the vibe that's that's a vibe I love it guys thank you so much for your time thanks and thank you so much

[00:32:19] my name is Jamie man hello Jim so from Brucker and welcome to the fundamentals podcast thank you for having us oh it's my pleasure so my first question to you guys I want to go back a

[00:32:32] little bit in your festival going history I want to know what was the first festival that you guys went to what was your first festival brucker hmm by a small margin was download festival in 2000 okay hand for wow I am what was your first festival so man

[00:32:57] wedding 2011 very nice mine mine was yeah redding I was 16 years old just before college haha I did lots of MDA there's a lot of bad photos with me but it was good I saw the strokes

[00:33:14] on the main stage and I figured out what being cool looks like yep and there's all the crystal castles lovely it was a good time do you know it was had lining yours

[00:33:27] do I remember yeah yeah absolutely it was uh it was went download was only two days it was the second year it was ever cooled download because it used to be cooled maybe lots of dogs and dogs

[00:33:40] it was some 41 yeah and Metallica and it was the year that Metallica played with the outlaws already and it was like no longer a Jo Jordan son and that drop deck maybe someone else

[00:33:52] yeah like the fans were waiting for like 45 minutes like over the set time and like it was all getting quite you know people would just get him rowdy and then that's what happened to people were

[00:34:03] sorry Lars they were happy yeah yeah it was a spectacle I don't know yeah absolutely it was yeah how about yourself so if you remember I didn't stay for the whole thing I only went for the

[00:34:12] day and it was only because of fallout boy we were playing and I was on mega fan at that lovely lovely I'm not crediting Pete went for the reason I play bass but you know he's very handsome man

[00:34:24] and it's certainly helped get me into it absolutely thanks for the memories fall out boy yeah there we go I love it so the worst guy ever not at all not at all I'm here for puns absolutely

[00:34:36] so I want to know what about as an artist what was the first festival that you guys played at the first festival we played out we were a lot down band we were our post covid act okay and

[00:34:48] the first festival that we did it was our second show ever yeah and it was big for festival which doesn't exist anymore there we okay I don't really know the reason but it was really good

[00:35:00] it was when Bob Villain was just coming up and had a right set you know played with other half and sports team a fat white family were on the main stage and primal scream which fever

[00:35:16] which fever it was it was a good one that was our first band festival experience and it was our second gig and I was I was very nervous and my mom and dad came and they were like you're cool

[00:35:28] and I was like I am cool thanks guys nice nice that's quite the experience yeah I love that something else I've been diving into with bands is the appeal of playing at festivals because I think a lot of people listening can understand being an abangent at doing your

[00:35:43] and tour that even touring with the band you love doing all that stuff but coming to a festivals are completely different game right for sure yeah so I want to know for you guys what do you

[00:35:52] playing festivals the nicest thing in my opinion about playing festivals is that unless you're on a tour or on a bill with your mates you don't see them you only see them when you're on

[00:36:04] a festival bill together right do you know I mean yeah it's like it's like summer camp for nerves and you all see each other and then you have a bit of a good together it's really nice

[00:36:15] indoor pets are playing now or they've just finished right you love them dearly I've got them they're so good nice good James their guitar player has recorded almost all of our stuff

[00:36:27] or a lot of it anyway lovely and we love them dearly what's your favourite thing about being a festival just shut out the maths press club paper don't broker yeah it's nice guys incredible

[00:36:41] band thanks that's worth that's nice to be serious yeah no I like it I like it I like it I like it what's my favourite thing um oh I guess it's the the potential that someone can just wander

[00:36:57] into the stage you're playing not knowing who it is yeah yeah and do you love a battle and you got us sorry so if he was nodding enthusiasticly would you say that yeah and you've got you know you

[00:37:07] can you can if you really give it you can win a person that doesn't even know who your band are brilliant and then you just made a fan literally out of nowhere like that's cool that's my favourite

[00:37:16] thing seeing someone like walking past and they go oh yeah and then they go in and they're like oh yeah what's in the cog's turn yeah and gone honestly the best all of the stuff we've just

[00:37:29] said is kind of rubbish when they've got nice pad tie it's like we're gonna have a good time here this is a good time if you found any good pad tie here not here we were at down the rabbit hole

[00:37:40] festival last a week ago one week ago we're at down the rabbit hole and they're headly bangin pad tie nice vegan pad tie lovely uh wheat wheat to vegan pizza it's all about the food really yeah good the portions really were enormous and

[00:37:57] oh fuck you forgot any so you could see it on stage yeah I'm wearing the portion I'm in a separate week straight so something else I've been exploring is as we mentioned there's

[00:38:10] a lot of different things you can experience at a festival right so I love to know what have been some of your favourite experiences playing festivals like meeting people you know winning over

[00:38:19] crazy that sort of thing anything else it stands out to you favourite experience when I'm at the festival the nice thing about it really yeah it's like I was saying about you see bands who

[00:38:31] wouldn't be seeing unless you're on a bell yeah it's nice to be in the in the backstage area and not because I'm cool I'm very cool I'm in the backstage you know oh it does feel very cool

[00:38:42] yeah it's just nice to hang out with people yeah on the one to one because people in bands are just people yes you know what I mean that's better people who work part time hours rather than full time

[00:38:54] hours to keep the dream alive and yeah it's a beautiful thing I feel like you make proper connections with people at festivals true and yeah this has been a lovely one they treat yeah so

[00:39:11] a big foot festival was our first ever festival yeah a truck festival last year right was our first festival after actually being a band for a minute if you want to meet yeah that was like the

[00:39:22] start of our first ever yes or one of the first like proper festival season sort of you know what we did a bunch of festivals all together which was what we you know what we've been dreaming about and uh

[00:39:34] we were in a big ten and we were like is anyone gonna show up and we walked out and it was a completely full ten so that for a year I think hopefully I haven't got off piece here but the question is like

[00:39:44] uh that is absolutely yeah experience was like 100% was that for me like walking out and being like oh no people are here well I'm not out now because I love it but like oh yeah people here and

[00:39:54] I'm gonna send it you know I mean yeah of course yeah what was the question again for yeah basically favorite experiences or memories yeah festivals you enjoy yeah so we see community is the best thing about the music in the world and watching people come together even when

[00:40:10] the weather is awful is my favorite thing watching people mud sliding and they're just getting completely filthy and it's just that they're grilling that little thing yeah 100% incredible point by so if in that people don't brave the weather unless they love a band right there's kind of

[00:40:29] no reason to go about when it's really f*** it down yeah after then rule blood or or whatever on the face actually yeah yeah great point I'm in it for the long haul totally

[00:40:42] and my final question to you guys uh it's my favorite question to ask everybody because the answers are always wild if you had to put your own festival together I want to know first of

[00:40:52] all what are you calling the festival and who are your three dream headlines you can have anyone you liked at all Tom Tom's quite good at names for things what would do you think that you would

[00:41:02] call a festival based around snarecares is in one what would we what we go with Tom's good at puns like it's you thinking intently yeah very on this because it could have been snakes fast because

[00:41:16] snakes who played this weekend we love them very much yeah it would be snakes fast right sure they could have called at anything else yeah okay I've got it got a snake i love white

[00:41:25] oh no that's not a good festival that might be one of the best names of hurdle we can answer second part to the question who are your three headline as everyone had liners so we get one

[00:41:34] each yeah yeah do they have to be alive no get a alive baby like fantasy here go for it i think first would be do me Hendrix nice very solid I mentioned them before you know you

[00:41:53] know when you call up like your phone company and you have a security question yes my question is who's a favorite artist and we can ask people we're gonna hack it to my phone

[00:42:06] hey go on white stripes it's my vibe no white stripes we've got to come back together okay make why it's one of my favorite dramas so good love that band this is this is yeah

[00:42:19] go going well so far final one who we haven't wow yeah it's a lot of pressure um i'm gonna go for an artist that I deeply love and I've never seen and the start haven't

[00:42:33] aligned and i'm gonna throw the vibe a little bit and go for slow dive oh okay bring the shoe gaze yeah yeah i like it i like slow dive we're amazing honourable mention i feel like go for it

[00:42:46] they are becoming a headline band and they're gonna headline the permanent stage yeah i do all's on the next record is yeah they're really band saying beautiful things yeah i agree with that love the band and that they're growing and growing in a beautiful way

[00:43:02] yeah it's community it's not me and i love the community thing in music and they've got it totally i could see them headlining this one day quite easily yeah i love that but yeah they're my own momentum that's great yeah but snowcolors are the biggest

[00:43:17] they're the best oh yeah it goes without saying if you're a band like you're gonna get a good one day that's the given you're getting your own headlines so yeah of course of course big awesome guys thank you so much for coming on the podcast
